  • Winter 2026-2027: A Wave of New Offerings Sweeps Across Air Transat’s Network to the South and Europe

    • Costa Rica now accessible non-stop from Quebec City
    • Addition of an exclusive route between Toronto and Martinique
    • Two flagship European routes now offered year-round: Toronto–Paris and Montreal–Barcelona
    • Expanded sun destination offering from London and Charlottetown
    • Return to Florida from Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax

MONTREAL, April 17, 2026 /CNW/ – Air Transat today begins unveiling its 2026-2027 winter program with the announcement of four new routes – Quebec City–San José, Toronto–Fort-de-France, London–Puerto Plata, and Charlottetown–Punta Cana – as well as the expansion of the Toronto–Paris and Montreal–Barcelona routes to year-round service. This first phase highlights attractive additions to sun destinations and the strengthening of the airline’s transatlantic offering.

“Demand for sun destinations remains strong, and Transat’s recognized expertise in leisure travel enables us to respond with ambition,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat. “Leveraging our brand, our network and a strategy focused on diversification and optimization, we continue to enhance our offering and expand our presence in high-potential markets. And this is only the beginning: next winter will bring a wave of announcements, spanning both network development and partnerships.”

    Sustained Expansion from Quebec City
Air Transat continues to grow its operations from Quebec City with the addition of a new route to San José, Costa Rica. The offering is also enhanced with additional frequencies to Fort-de-France (two flights per week) and Cancún (eight flights per week). In addition, the seasonal Québec City–Nantes route, scheduled to launch this summer, will be extended through the holiday period to meet the strong demand for Europe. These additions bolster Air Transat’s winter offering and consolidate its position as the leading carrier at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport.

The French Antilles Now Easily Accessible from Toronto
From Toronto, Air Transat is adding a new route to Fort-de-France, Martinique – a fast-growing destination renowned for its cultural richness and unique landscapes. Already offered year-round from Montreal and Quebec City, this destination will now be available seasonally from Toronto, allowing even more travellers to discover this gem of the French Antilles.

Key European Routes Now Offered Year-Round
Air Transat is expanding its winter offering to Europe by making two popular European routes available year-round. The Toronto–Paris and Montreal–Barcelona routes, previously operated only during the summer season, will now also be available in winter. This addition is designed to better meet the needs of travellers wishing to visit loved ones or plan trips outside the peak season. By offering these destinations all year long, Air Transat provides greater choice and flexibility while facilitating travel between Canada and Europe throughout the year.

Expanded Offering from London and Charlottetown
Air Transat is also continuing to develop its presence at regional airports with the addition of Puerto Plata from London (Ontario) and Punta Cana from Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island). These routes enhance the airline’s existing sun destination offering, which already includes flights to Cancún and Punta Cana from London, as well as Cancún from Charlottetown.

Florida Returns to the Winter Program
After a pause during the summer season, Air Transat will resume service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in winter 2026-2027. The airline will offer up to seven weekly flights from Montreal, as well as three weekly flights from Quebec City and a weekly flight from Halifax. The return of this iconic sun destination is part of Air Transat’s efforts to strengthen its winter offering and reinforce its presence in the most promising markets.

“These additions illustrate our commitment to consolidating our presence in Eastern Canada by offering more non-stop travel options while responding to growing demand for convenient, close-to-home departures,” added Mr. Ponce.

The first major expression of its new Glowing Hearted standard, the design delivers a distinctly Canadian experience, emphasizing comfort, care, and connection for all customers on every flight, while signalling the airline’s bold growth ambitions.

“This investment is about fundamentally redefining the experience of flying with Air Canada. Airbus A321XLR Signature Class

The completely reimagined cabins will appear first this summer on the A321XLR, which offers a true lie-flat Air Canada Signature Class experience for the first time on a single-aisle aircraft. The introduction of the new Airbus A321XLR will be a game changer, unlocking new trans-Atlantic routes and allowing Air Canada to offer an upgraded, premium journey across more of its North America transcontinental network. The new cabin design featuring the exclusive Air Canada Signature Plus Suite will launch when the Boeing 787-10 enters service.

Upgrades to the Experience Across All Cabins

Air Canada’s new Glowing Hearted design standard will deliver a range of thoughtful upgrades for every customer, including:

    • Significantly larger 4K OLED screens and Bluetooth audio available for all customers.
    • Access to high-powered USB-C and AC power outlets at every seat, ensuring laptops and all personal devices stay fully charged.

On the Boeing 787-10: Fact Sheet

The new cabin design is inspired by Canada, creating a thoroughly modern space that evokes a sense of calm.

Key design features across both aircraft:

    • Air Canada Signature red stitching and bespoke fabrics provide a subtle Canadian touch paired with a palette of greys and stone.
    • Natural wood grain details are complemented by bronze metal accents.
    • Leather-grain surfaces and metal finishes reflect deliberate investment in enduring quality, balancing refined aesthetics and durability.

A refined and Glowing Hearted experience:

    • On the Airbus A321XLR, a backlit canopy of maple leaves for an unmistakably Canadian welcome for every customer as they board.
    • On the Boeing 787-10, premium customers are greeted by a wave-like entrance monument, inspired by Canada’s waterways and anchored by the Air Canada rondelle cast in bronze.
    • To be unveiled later this year, the end-to-end hospitality experience will be distinctly Canadian and include upgraded service, food and beverage elements and elevated amenities.

North American Fleet Upgrade Program Underway

In addition to the Glowing Hearted cabins on the A321XLR and 787-10 Dreamliner, Air Canada is also upgrading the interiors on other fleets.

Air Canada’s Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, currently operated by Rouge, will move to the mainline fleet and be retrofitted to Air Canada’s latest design standard, while the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will transition to Air Canada Rouge in 2026. This will allow customers flying Rouge leisure and Sun routes across North America and the Caribbean to enjoy upgraded interiors, including personal seatback entertainment, reclining seats and complimentary Fast, Free Wi-Fi sponsored by Bell.

Upgrades to the customer experience also extend to the Air Canada Express aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation LP, which will be fitted with new cabins, and are now flying with next generation Fast, Free Wi-Fi.

Broader Investments in the Customer Experience

Air Canada’s commitment to a thoughtful, end-to-end experience extends beyond the cabin. The Glowing Hearted design standard is reflected in the airline’s ongoing investments to elevate its onboard amenities, food and beverage offerings, entertainment and connectivity, and introduce new digital tools. This is particularly evident in the modernized and expanded global lounge network, with new or renovated locations opening this year across Canada and in Europe. This is delivered by the airline’s 39,000+ people, who proudly fly the flag globally.

Participants in the 12th edition of “Enfants en première” at YUL Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (CNW Group/Aéroports de Montréal)

This year, nearly 200 people participated in the typical airport process, from arrival to security screening, boarding, and the announcement of safety procedures on board the aircraft.

“ADM is proud to have once again played host to Premium Kids, an event that aligns with our commitment to making the airport experience more inclusive and accessible,” said Jérôme Conraud, ADM’s Vice President Strategy, Planning, and Sustainability. “The children, accompanied by their parents, experienced a realistic introduction to the airport environment in a welcoming setting, which gave them hope that one day they will be able to fly as a family. This activity is very important to ADM, and I would like to thank all the volunteers and partners who made the day such a success.”

“Initiatives such as Premium Kids, supported by the commitment of our employees and long-standing partners like ADM, play an essential role in easing these families’ apprehensions and guiding them toward a more serene travel experience. As part of our accessibility approach and our commitment to continuous improvement, we have identified critical moments in the travel experience of individuals with functional limitations, one of which is the airport process. This highlights just how important events like Premium Kids are. Air Transat is honoured to support this meaningful initiative year after year,” added Andréan Gagné, Senior Director, Communications, Public Affairs and Corporate Responsibility at Transat.

In addition to Air Transat, which has been involved since the first edition, several other partners ensure the smooth running of the event: Autisme Montréal; the Giant Steps; Transport Canada; the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA); the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA); GardaWorld; Sûreté du Québec; HMSHost; and the Montréal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel.

Presented as part of Autism Awareness Month, this initiative is inspired by a similar program, Wings for Autism, launched in 2011 by the Charles River Center in collaboration with the Massachusetts Port Authority (Boston-Logan International Airport). ADM became the first airport authority in Canada to implement such a program at YUL in 2013.

A sculptural ceiling evokes the shoreline of Stanley Park, while lighting from Vancouver lighting studio A-N-D recalls the organic forms of river rocks. New Café at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport Celebrates Local Culture

The Vancouver opening follows the March 24 debut of a new Air Canada Café in the U.S. departures pier at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, marking Air Canada’s second Café location at YUL. The 62-seat Montréal Café is inspired by the city’s renowned “third wave” coffee culture and offers U.S.-bound travellers a premium pre-flight experience.

The menu features iconic Montréal classics including smoked meat sandwiches, fresh bagels, and artisanal pastries like a delectable pistachio croissant alongside a vegan soup created by Sagamité Watso, a Québec-based, Indigenous-owned business. The beverage selection celebrates local Québec craftsmanship, with wines from L’Orpailleur Winery, gin from distillerie du Fjord and craft beers from Montreal’s RJ Brasseur brewery,

  • WestJet opens the door to more seamless global connectivity with new interline booking capabilities

Guests can now book interline itineraries with Copa Airlines (Copa) on WestJet.com, the WestJet app or through the WestJet contact centre, and earn WestJet Rewards throughout the entire itinerary

CALGARY, AB, April 8, 2026 /CNW/ – Beginning today, WestJet guests can book interline itineraries comprised of both WestJet and interline partner segments through the airline’s website and contact centre. This significant enhancement will allow WestJet guests to eventually access hundreds of new destinations across six continents with nearly 50 interline partners, including its launch partner Copa, which is available for booking today. By the end of 2026, WestJet will enable direct channel sales with more than 10 interline partners, adding more than 100 net-new destinations through the airline’s world leading partner airline networks.

“Direct channel booking for interline is a meaningful enhancement for our guests looking to explore new horizons. They will enjoy benefits similar to a codeshare or WestJet operated itinerary, now with the luxury of more destinations. Whether they want to cross off a bucket list city like Lima or make their way to the Great Wall of China from Beijing, this change will make travel dreams within arm’s reach for many more Canadians,” said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet Director, Airport Affairs and Alliances.

With this enhancement, in addition to existing options through our travel trade partners, guests can book seamless itineraries that include flights operated and marketed by partner airlines directly on WestJet.com, the WestJet app or the WestJet contact centre, all within one reservation and with coordinated connections. Guests that book an interline itinerary directly with WestJet will have the ability to manage changes and cancellations directly with the airline, similarly to how they do now on WestJet operated trips.

Additionally, guests will gain the ability to earn WestJet Rewards on their entire interline booking, including the partner operated segments, as well as use WestJet points as a form of payment for redemption on their trip. At the first point in guests’ check-in process, they will receive all boarding passes, and baggage tags to their destination.

WestJet kicks off interline partner transformation with Copa

By leading the transformation with Copa, Canadians will gain greater access to Central and South America via four of WestJet’s destinations in Mexico, as well as Panama City (PTY). • Cargojet Pilots Respond to Comments on Contract Negotiations

    3 April 2026

HAMILTON, Ont.—Capt. Adam Brochu, Cargojet Master Executive Council (MEC) chair issued the following statement in response to comments made by 21 Air and Houston Astros owner Jim Crane. On Thursday, Crane publicly stated Cargojet is selling its stake in 21 Air because it doesn’t want its pilot union to exploit the relationship in negotiations over a new labour contract, which, if true, undermines the integrity of the negotiations and the growth both management and the Association have shown throughout this process.

“We have approached negotiations in good faith and collaborated with our company’s management to achieve contract terms that include the industry protections common to our fellow pilots in Canada and while securing a fair contract that reflects our value to this airline. Besides many of our pilots being shareholders, we are the ones who ensure Cargojet maintains its valuable reputation amongst its clients, as we perform the work of flying those planes.

“To diminish our duty to bargain as an attempt to exploit billion and, in some cases, multibillion dollar businesses is not only offensive but a complete affront to the value of labour and the men and women who dedicate their lives to such work.

“Our hope is that Mr. Crane’s statements are not an accurate reflection of what actually occurred—as that, in our eyes, would be an intentional attempt to diminish the value of the company with the sole purpose of derailing negotiations or restricting the pilots’ ability to seek fair compensation. On our part, we will continue to negotiate for the interests of our pilots.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 80,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit ALPA.org

  • Air Canada Tests a Third-Party, Alternative Dispute Resolution Process to Resolve APPR Cases

Carrier launching trial to test new approach to settle customer claims

MONTRÉAL, April 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Air Canada today said it is beginning a limited pilot of an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process to test its effectiveness in settling customer claims for compensation filed under Canada’s Airline Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).

For the test, the airline is inviting randomly selected customers to volunteer to transfer information from their outstanding CTA claims to an independent and impartial third-party ADR provider that will decide on their claims within 90 days after full information is received from both parties. Outcomes decided under the pilot will not be binding on customers, unless they accept them. Following the pilot, Air Canada will evaluate the results and consult with government on possible next steps.

“Everyone wants a swift and satisfactory resolution when disputes arise over travel disruptions. To achieve this, we are proposing the use of ADR in Canada for air travel, an independent, fair and effective method to quickly and fairly resolve air passenger claims that is widely used in Europe. As a first step, we have designed a limited pilot for a randomly selected group of our customers to transfer information from their CTA claim to ADR without any obligation to accept the result or give up their spot in the CTA’s queue,” said Marc Barbeau, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Air Canada.

“For customers, based on experience elsewhere, ADR is expected to deliver a fast, impartial, and reasoned response to their claims. For airlines, it has the potential to address customer concerns, bring efficiency and consistency to the process, and reduce issues associated with unresolved claims by shortening the adjudication timeline.”

Air Canada has consulted with Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency on the design of the pilot project. For the pilot, the airline has selected Canada Aviation Dispute Resolution (CADR), an independent, firm that specializes in resolving air travel complaints. CADR is a subsidiary of The CDRL Group, a not-for-profit group which is certified in the UK and several other European countries to provide ADR services related to aviation complaints.

    ADR Pilot Project

The airline has invited 500 customers to volunteer to transfer information from their outstanding APPR claims currently filed with the CTA claim directly to CADR. For customers who agree to take part:

    • They can easily agree to their CTA case information and documentation to be automatically transferred electronically to CADR. There is no need to re-enter any data, documents or information.
    • A CADR arbitrator will review their documents and Air Canada’s response.
    • Customers have an opportunity to reply to Air Canada’s submission.
    • A decision will be issued within 90 days of complete information being received from both parties
    • All decisions are binding for Air Canada but not on the customer, who can decline the arbitrator’s decision and continue with the regular CTA process.
    • There is no cost to participate in the pilot and no impact on the customer’s claims before the CTA.
