5 November 2025–TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Porter Airlines is launching roundtrip service today between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Cancun, Mexico (CUN). This is the first flight operated by the airline outside of Canada and the U.S., and part of a significant expansion into southern markets that also includes the Caribbean and Central America.

Porter provides all of its passengers with a distinct elevated economy experience, including free beer and wine served in glassware, as well as premium Canadian snacks, that have been part of its renowned passenger service for 19 years. The route is served with the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, featuring a two-by-two configuration, which means no middle seat on any Porter flight. Free, fast WiFi also comes standard – for all passengers. Priority check-in, extra legroom seats, premium pre-mixed cocktails, and fresh, healthy meals are also available with the all-inclusive PorterReserve fares, or for purchase à la carte with PorterClassic fares.

The flight schedule improves to daily service beginning in December, and is increasing up to twice daily by January. Non-stop flights to Cancun will also operate from Hamilton and Ottawa, beginning Dec. 17.

This inaugural flight kicks off Porter’s extensive winter season to sun destinations, including Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Florida, Arizona and California.

The airline also introduced significant service from Hamilton International Airport in June 2025, becoming the only airline operating scheduled flights from all three major Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area airports: Toronto Pearson, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Hamilton.

Porter was initially established at Billy Bishop Airport, where it continues to enhance regional connectivity across Eastern Canada and key U.S. destinations. It is the largest airline at this airport, with flights connecting 15 non-stop routes. This complements an expanding North American presence at Toronto-Pearson, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, so far, and look forward to greater successes as we enter our 20th year.”

Another example of the airline’s significant national presence is the launch of the BMO VIPorter Mastercard lineup earlier this year, offering Canadians a new way to build travel rewards with immediate frequent flyer benefits and industry-leading earn rates. At the same time, the expansion of airline partnerships, including Air Transat, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, is enhancing connectivity and travel options for passengers beyond Canada.

  • Porter Airlines Introduces New Scholarship and Awards for Future Algonquin College Aviation Professionals

    26 September 2025

OTTAWA, Ontario–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Algonquin College is proud to share the expansion of its aviation partnership with Porter Airlines, including increased support for the Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) program through scholarships and awards.

The $25,000 gift will establish the following financial aid initiatives:

    • The Porter Airlines Scholarship for Aircraft Maintenance Technicians
    • The Porter Airlines Award for Aircraft Maintenance Technicians

Combined, these initiatives will support 10 second-year AMT students each year, providing financial assistance, celebrating academic success, and accelerating careers. As the program’s coordinator, Daniel Maslow, explained, “There are currently exceptional opportunities for aircraft maintenance engineers in Canada as the industry grows and there is a need to fill thousands of open positions in the coming years. Our partnership with Porter shows that we understand the urgency of this issue and that we are working together to address the industry’s pressing need for skilled talent.”

This increase in collaboration is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Porter and Algonquin College signed in May 2024, when Porter inaugurated its aircraft maintenance base at Ottawa International Airport. Highlighting Ottawa’s emergence as a major aviation hub, this agreement recognizes Algonquin College’s vital role in supplying employers in the region—and beyond—with the skilled workforce they require to thrive.

“The MOU signed last year laid a solid foundation for the great work our institutions are doing together,” said Mark Savenkoff, Algonquin College’s Vice President, Advancement and Strategy. “Our partnership is great news for our learners. They will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and unmatched hands-on experience they need to succeed as the next generation of aviation professionals. It’s fair to say that this partnership is generating a great deal of excitement in our community.”

The partnership between Algonquin College and Porter goes beyond financial aid and involves facilitating practical learning experiences for students. For example, in April 2025, Porter hosted the AMT cohort at its Ottawa aircraft hangar. According to Maslow, this visit was “a real eye-opener for students. They were inspired to meet some of our graduates now working there. I thought, ‘This is so awesome! This is why we do what we do.’”

Lawrence Hughes, Porter’s Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, echoes this enthusiasm: “Porter’s presence in Ottawa has grown substantially in recent years and we expect this momentum to continue. As our operations expand, we remain committed to investing in impactful initiatives that help Algonquin College students launch promising careers in the aviation industry.”

Porter is also committed to supporting students who identify as women, newcomers to Canada, single parents, Indigenous, and members of underrepresented communities. Porter launched an initiative that offers airfare vouchers to Indigenous learners from any academic program at Algonquin College who may be experiencing emergencies. Covering the full cost of a round-trip airfare from Ottawa to wherever Porter flies, these vouchers help Indigenous learners stay connected to their families and communities during challenging times.

Anita Tenasco, Algonquin College’s Director of Indigenous Initiatives, noted that there are “Indigenous students from a variety of backgrounds in our college community, hailing from across Canada—including remote locations. I am hopeful Porter’s new voucher initiative will help alleviate the pressure these students may feel as they do their best to balance schoolwork and family life.”

The partnership between Algonquin College and Porter Airlines is expected to continue to grow in coming years. This will raise the profile of the Aircraft Maintenance Technician program and further cement Algonquin College’s position as a leader in polytechnic education.

    About Algonquin College

The mission of Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology is to transform hopes and dreams into lifelong success. Algonquin College, an Ontario public sector community college, does this by offering hands-on, digitally connected, experiential learning in more than 250 programs. Algonquin College is the largest polytechnic institute in Eastern Ontario, with campuses in Ottawa, Perth, Pembroke and AC Online.

TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Porter Airlines has been rated a 2026 Four Star Regional Airline by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX). Porter is one of APEX’s top three regional airlines in the world.

The APEX Five Star and Four Star Airlines Awards are the only global awards based entirely on neutral, third-party passenger feedback. They are a result of passenger ratings of almost one million flights across nearly 600 airlines around the world, certified by APEX in partnership with TripIt® from Concur®. A regional airline is defined by APEX as, “primarily operating flights within a set geography or single continent, with service focused on short- or medium-haul routes.”

Combined with the genuine care provided by our team members – which cannot be replicated – we see consistently high passenger ratings,” said Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines. “As we further expand our network across the continent, more passengers will have the option to experience Porter’s renowned service that is available equally to everyone onboard.”

Since receiving the APEX Four Star Major Airline award last year, Porter has continued growing its North American network and announced its first routes outside of Canada and the U.S., with service to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean beginning this fall. The airline also launched significant service from Hamilton International Airport, including four destinations across Canada; Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Its fleet of 47 Embraer E195-E2 jets and 29 De Havilland Dash 8-400s enables Porter to challenge the way passengers have traditionally experienced economy air travel.

“Porter Airlines proudly now ranks in the top three APEX passenger-ranked regional airlines around the world. With its recent enhancements with complimentary premium snacks, in glass beverage service, as no middle seats, and high speed WiFi, it is not just delivering an amazing product, Porter is elevating Canadian airline service,” APEX Group CEO Dr. Joe Leader stated. “Porter continues to redefine what excellence looks like in Canadian air travel. • CUPE welcomes Porter cabin crew

    14 August 2025

This week, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) announced that CUPE has been successful in its campaign to organize approximately 1,200 cabin crew at Porter Airlines.

“When workers organize, they win,” said CUPE National President Mark Hancock. “We are honoured to welcome Porter cabin crew to CUPE.  We look forward to making sure they get a fair deal when negotiating their very first collective agreement.”

“These workers will now have the resources of Canada’s largest union at their disposal,” said CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer Candace Rennick. “This is a historic step in the fight for fair wages for flight attendants across the country.”

CUPE now represents approximately 20,000 cabin crew at airlines large and small across the country. For the past 40 years, CUPE has worked with flight attendants to raise the bar across the industry, with better wages and health and safety protections, improved cabin air quality standards, better premiums for extended duty days, and an end to restrictive and often discriminatory uniform and grooming policies.

“Today is a really big day for Porter cabin crew, and I’m so proud of my colleagues who have spent countless hours organizing for this win,” said Sarah Seal, a cabin crew member at Porter Airlines. “This is an exciting new chapter for all of us and we look forward to improving our working conditions and wages as Porter continues to grow and succeed.”

  • Porter Airlines Pilots Choose ALPA

World’s Largest Pilot Union Now Represents More Than 95% of Canada’s Professional Airline Pilots

    12 August 2025

OTTAWA, ONT.—The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) certified the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) as the bargaining agent for more than 800 pilots at Porter Airlines. With this milestone, Porter’s pilots become the 43rd pilot group to join ALPA, and the 22nd in Canada, further strengthening the unified voice of professional airline pilots.

“We are proud to welcome the pilots of Porter Airlines to ALPA and expand the strength and power of our international union,” said ALPA president, Captain Jason Ambrosi. “We are always stronger together, and bringing our brothers and sisters at Porter into ALPA will not only improve their ability to negotiate good contracts but also ensure that safety and workers’ rights remain front and center.”

Porter’s pilot group has grown significantly in the last five years and operates the Embraer E195-E2 and the De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. This rapid expansion has made Porter the fourth-largest pilot group in Canada. Until today’s certification of ALPA as the bargaining agent for the Porter pilots, Porter was the largest non-unionized carrier in the country.

“With the addition of the Porter pilots, more than 13,500 pilots, representing 95% of Canada’s professional pilots, are now represented by ALPA,” said Captain Tim Perry, ALPA Canada president. “Porter pilots are instrumental to the airline’s considerable success. Our immediate priority is to help Porter pilots negotiate a fair collective agreement that recognizes their significant contributions to the airline. Porter pilots are entering a new chapter, and we stand with them as they build a strong and bright future within our industry.”

In recent years, ALPA has recently welcomed thousands of pilots from numerous other Canadian carriers, including Air Borealis, Air Canada, Air Inuit, Cargojet, Flair, Keewatin Air, Morningstar Air Express, PAL Airlines, PAL Aerospace, Pascan Aviation, and Perimeter Aviation.
