  • Porter introduces 4 new winter destinations for 2026-27 season, increases sun capacity by greater than 150%

New service to Aruba and Jamaica, and new destinations in Costa Rica and Mexico

First international Porter flights from Alberta

Halifax, Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto gaining southern service

TORONTO / April 30, 2026 – Porter Airlines is flying south next winter to four new destinations. In addition to a robust set of new sun routes from Eastern Canada, Porter is introducing its first international flights from Alberta. This includes over 40 warm-weather routes for the 2026-27 season.

The carrier has been growing at a rapid pace with the introduction of new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft into its fleet, allowing it to expand throughout North America, serving new regions such as the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. Additions to this year’s schedule include Aruba, San Jose, Montego Bay and Los Cabos. This is in addition to existing service to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Grand Cayman and Liberia.

New flights are also being introduced from Edmonton to Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Las Vegas and Phoenix. From Calgary, service to Phoenix is being added to the schedule.

In addition, Porter will resume service between Vancouver and Phoenix, and introduce a second daily flight from Toronto. All flights offer connectivity beyond Phoenix to partner American Airlines’ large domestic network.

Other markets benefitting from new service are Halifax, Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto. Halifax will see flights to Cancun and Fort Lauderdale; Hamilton connects with Montego Bay; Ottawa adds Aruba, Montego Bay and Los Cabos; and Toronto adds Aruba, San Jose, Montego Bay and Los Cabos.

Porter is the only airline to offer service to Aruba and Los Cabos from Ottawa, as well as Montego Bay from Hamilton.

In total, Porter will operate nearly 5,000 flights to sun destinations for the upcoming winter season. This represents an increase of greater than 150 percent compared to the previous year.

“We are concluding an extremely successful first season of flying to southern markets beyond the U.S. and are building on this with additional destinations and routes for next winter,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president, network planning and reporting. “Our network is growing by two new countries, four cities and 15 routes through this announcement. Six airports across Canada are benefiting from this service, giving travellers many new and competitive options for choosing their winter getaways.”

In 2025, YYC welcomed 19.4 million travellers, representing 2.7% growth over 2024, including two consecutive summer months with more than two million travellers moving through the airport – a first in YYC’s history. Throughout the year, we added 13 new routes alongside airline partners, for a total of 108 non-stop destinations by the end of 2025.

This momentum means more non-stop options and a smoother journey for travellers, while strengthening Calgary’s connectivity, supporting tourism, business travel and trade, and helping drive economic growth across the region.

“In 2025, our focus was simple: keep people moving safely and smoothly while expanding choice for travellers,” says Chris Dinsdale, President & CEO. “With passenger volumes up and new routes added, we also delivered major milestones like reopening the West Runway and launching Phase I of Centralized Security Screening to support a more reliable operation and a better start-to-finish travel experience.”

The report outlines progress across Calgary Airports’ operations, infrastructure, guest experience and community impact, among others, including completion of a milestone project and advancement across several key initiatives designed to enhance resilience and improve the guest experience.

“None of this happens without the people behind the scenes,” Dinsdale says. “This report reflects the collective efforts of the teams who work to keep our complex operation moving safely and smoothly.”

Notable highlights from the 2025 Annual Report include:

    • Welcomed 19.4 million passengers passed to YYC, a 2.7% increase over 2024.
    • Added 13 new routes, for a total of 108 non-stop destinations at the end of 2025.
    • Reopened YYC’s West Runway, after two construction seasons of work to completely rebuild the four-kilometre runway. The project was completed on time and under its $201 million budget.
    • Opened Phase I of Centralized Security Screening – consolidating three domestic security screening checkpoints into one and creating a smoother, more efficient start to the travel journey for thousands of travellers each day.
    • Advanced YYC AeroNex, Calgary Airports’ long-term development initiative, with announcements of the Lufthansa Technik engine repair, maintenance and overhaul facility, and the Alberta Centre for Excellence training facility.
    • Launched the YYC Wings Community Investment Program and directed more than $160,000 in financial and in-kind donations to community organizations, in addition to the $356,700 raised in support of Not In My City during the 2025 YYC Golf Charity Classic.

“We are further cementing Air Canada’s global network as one of the most far-reaching from the North American continent. The addition of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, reflects our continued ambition to offer our customers and Aeroplan members an exceptional, diversified array of unique Air Canada destinations. Enabled by the next-generation capabilities of our incoming A321XLR aircraft, travellers on the only non-stop service from North America now have convenient options to reach the island renowned for its stunning volcanic scenery, a rich array of bucket-list activities and year-round warm weather,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada.

“Air Canada is also expanding flights into Latin America from Vancouver, enabled by growing A220 and Air Canada Rouge bases that unlock sought-after, non-stop service to Costa Rica and Mexico, including to Mazatlán, a new Mexican destination. The CEO of Tenerife Tourism, Dimple Melwani, said “The arrival of Air Canada with direct flights from Toronto and Montreal is a strategic boost for Tenerife, consolidating our destination as a global leader and bringing us closer to a high-value traveler for the island. This connection with Air Canada affords us the opportunity to give Tenerife a boost in these markets with growing demand, not only as a vacation destination, but also as a global hub in strategic sectors such as business and corporate tourism, the audiovisual and cultural industries, as well as cruise tourism with multi-stop itineraries.”

According to Melwani, “The island has spent several years working to improve its positioning in these markets, whose interest in Tenerife continues to grow, although there is still a long way to go. This direct flight makes it possible for Tenerife to reinforce our position as a gateway to Europe for North American travelers, while raising the profile of our cultural, culinary and leisure offering in priority source markets on the current roadmap. We are confident that this connection will increase the visibility of Tenerife as a comprehensive and competitive destination over other international options.”

With capacity for 182 passengers in a configuration of 14 Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats, the A321XLR also marks the beginning of the next era in Air Canada’s cabin interiors with the introduction of a new design standard for onboard experience.

The airline continues expanding its network, which currently includes 112 routes across 49 year-round and seasonal destinations.

Its arrival at MET is part of this plan to have an even stronger presence across Canada. Porter is bringing a wide range of flight options to the airport, along with a genuine commitment to the community. Our philosophy is to treat everyone with care and this is perfectly complemented by the overall travel experience passengers will enjoy at MET. We are eager to begin this journey with an unprecedented amount of new service.”

  • Calgary to host global aviation leaders as Word Cargo Symposium comes to Canada in 2027

CALGARY – Calgary has been selected to host the International Air Travel Association’s (IATA) World Cargo Symposium in March 2027, marking a significant milestone for the city and showcasing Calgary and Alberta’s growing role as a centre for aviation logistics and global trade.

The World Cargo Symposium is the air cargo industry’s leading international conference, bringing together airline executives, logistics providers, regulators and innovators from around the world. The event helps shape how goods move globally – everything from food and medical supplies to e-commerce, manufacturing and live animals – and influences the future of resilient, secure and sustainable supply chains.

“Calgary has emerged as a strategic North American gateway where air, rail and road networks converge in Western Canada,” says Chris Dinsdale, President and CEO of Calgary Airports. “Being chosen by IATA to host the World Cargo Symposium reinforces our role as a strategic hub for cargo and logistics. It signals that Calgary is not just participating in global trade, we’re helping shape its future.”

At the centre of Calgary’s aviation ecosystem is YYC Calgary International Airport, which supports more than 6,000 aviation-related jobs on the airport campus, generates over $500 million annually for the regional economy, and seamlessly connects Alberta businesses to global markets. More than 70 per cent of Alberta’s air cargo moves through YYC each year.

Beyond the airport, our city is home to a dynamic and growing aviation sector that includes airlines, cargo and logistics operators, training institutions and aerospace companies. Together, this ecosystem supports jobs, attracts investment and drives economic diversification across the region.

“Tourism Calgary is thrilled to welcome one of the largest and most prestigious events in the global air cargo industry – the World Cargo Symposium. Hosting this event signals our city’s strength as a leader in aviation and transportation,” says Alisha Reynolds, President & CEO of Tourism Calgary. “This win also highlights how meetings and conventions, combined with our Team Calgary approach, create opportunities beyond the conference itself – opening doors for our economy, advancing transportation innovation, and strengthening Calgary’s global brand.”

Hosting the World Cargo Symposium is both a statement of confidence in the future of aviation in our region and an opportunity to showcase Calgary on a global stage. The event brings more than a thousand international delegates to the city and highlights Calgary’s capabilities as a trusted, efficient and innovative cargo hub in Canada.

It also reflects a broader shift in Alberta’s economy, from one historically centred on resources to an economy increasingly supported by transportation, trade, innovation and global connectivity. While air cargo is often invisible to the public, it is essential to everyday life and economic resilience, and Calgary’s aviation sector plays a critical role in keeping communities and industries moving.
