  • Air Canada Suspending Cuba Service in Response to Aviation Fuel Shortage

Airline will operate empty flights to Cuba to pick up and return customers

MONTRÉAL, Feb. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Air Canada said that effective today it is suspending its service to Cuba due to an ongoing shortage of aviation fuel on the island. Over the following days, the airline will operate empty flights southbound to pick up approximately 3,000 customers already at destination and return them home.

Air Canada took the decision following advisories issued by governments (NOTAMs) regarding the unreliability of the aviation fuel supply at Cuban airports. It is projected that as of February 10 aviation fuel will not be commercially available at the island’s airports. For remaining flights, Air Canada will tanker in extra fuel and make a technical stops as necessary to refuel on the return journey if necessary.

Air Canada will continue to monitor the situation to determine an appropriate restart of normal service to Cuba at a future date.

    Customers

Air Canada’s immediate priority is to return customers already in Cuba to Canada. It will operate empty ferry flights to the island over the coming days to maintain its regular schedule from Cuba to Canada over the near-term to pick up these customers. Air Canada currently has approximately 3,000 customers in Cuba, most of whom are travelling on Air Canada Vacations Packages.

Throughout the process, Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations monitored the situation closely, first introducing a flexible rebooking policy for customers travelling to Cuba. Air Canada Vacations is now introducing a refund policy, allowing customers who had scheduled departures to Cuba and experienced flight cancellations to automatically receive a full refund in their original form of payment. There is no need for these customers to contact the Air Canada Vacations’ Contact Centre.

Customers currently in Cuba who booked an Air Canada Vacations package can receive direct support from Air Canada Vacations’ local representatives, who are available to address any questions or concerns.

    Air Canada Cuba Schedule

Air Canada operates on average 16 weekly flights to four destinations in Cuba from Toronto and Montreal. These include:

    From Toronto:

    • 4 times weekly to Jardines del Rey Airport in Cayo Coco,
    • 2 times weekly to Frank País Airport in Holguín,
    • 4 times weekly to Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport in Varadero,
    • Once weekly to Abel Santamaría Airport in Santa Clara.

    From Montreal:

    • 3 times weekly to Jardines del Rey Airport in Cayo Coco,

At present, seasonal flights to Holguín and Santa Clara are cancelled for the rest of the season. Flights to Varadero and Cayo Coco are schedule to operate yearround but are currently suspended with a tentative restart, pending review, on May 1. • YUL Montréal Trudeau International Airport: Holiday Travel Tips

MONTRÉAL, Dec. 16, 2025 /CNW/ – With the holiday season being a particularly busy time for airports around the world, ADM Aéroports de Montréal expects to welcome many travellers to YUL Montréal Trudeau International Airport in the coming weeks amidst major construction work on the airport site. With this in mind, the organization is providing recommendations for passengers and airport users to minimize the impact on their experience and help them better prepare for their visit.

YUL is undergoing major changes to better serve its users, so all passengers are strongly advised to plan their visit and arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight’s departure time, regardless of their destination. Additionally, due to the permanent closure of the multi-level parking facility and P5 EconoParc, the number of available parking spaces at YUL has decreased. During this busy period, passengers must check the current occupancy of available parking lots online and reserve their place to secure it. Those who have not reserved a parking space should consider alternative transportation options, as there may be no parking available upon arrival.

    Before leaving

    Getting ready

    • Check the status and schedule of your flight before heading to YUL by visiting the ADM website or contacting your airline.
    • Plan your movements using the YUL Transit Planner and take the time to check road conditions and traffic by consulting Québec 511 before heading to the airport.
    • Review the various public transport options available in your area to get to the airport.
    • Reserve your parking space in advance if you wish to come by car, as availability is limited during the holiday season.
    • Pack your carry-on baggage carefully for the security checkpoint to facilitate the process. Place wrapped gifts in checked baggage (hold baggage). If this is not possible, we remind you that gifts placed in carry-on baggage (cabin baggage) must not be wrapped.
    • Check with your airline to determine the accepted size of your carry-on baggage and the maximum weight of your checked baggage.

    Arrive early

    • Ask your driver to drop you off at the Express drop-off located near the P4 parking facility or the one at the P10. Free and open 24/7, these alternate drop-off points allow you to avoid traffic congestion and are served by a frequent shuttle service that provides access to the terminal in five minutes.
    • Arrive at the airport 3 hours before your flight departure, regardless of your destination, to complete the pre-boarding process.
    • Go through security checks as soon as you have completed your check-in.
    • For faster access to airport processes, make use of the free services offered at YUL:

“This new direct flight between Montréal and Guadalajara solidifies the privileged relationship that Québec has maintained with the State of Jalisco for the past twenty years. The opportunities that bring this new connection for our Québec entrepreneurs, artists, and researchers are immense. On one hand, it will open the doors to one of Mexico’s largest tourism industries, and on the other, it will facilitate breaking into a new market, especially Guadalajara’s one, which is experiencing a strong growth in the technology and creative industries sectors. Our local team at the Québec Government Office in Mexico is ready to provide advice or logistical support in that matter.”

Michelle Fridman, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco
“It is important to emphasize what the opening of an additional flight from Canada represents for tourism in Jalisco, as we have recorded a notable increase in air traffic from January to October 2025, with 5,365 operations between Canada and Jalisco, representing an 8% increase compared to 2024. Of these, 562 operations correspond specifically to the route between Canada and Guadalajara, with an impressive growth of 368% compared to the previous year. Thus, the opening of this new direct route from Guadalajara to Montreal, starting on December 13 and operated by a renowned airline like Air Transat, boosts the arrival of more tourists to the state and aligns with our expansion plans, generating optimal travel conditions for the Canadian and Jalisco markets. This constitutes an excellent opportunity to strengthen our ties and reaffirm an essential aspect: in Jalisco, we warmly welcome Canadian travellers.”

  • DM Aéroports de Montréal wins Eureka Award for its Innovated De-icing Agent with Reduced Environmental Footprint

MONTRÉAL, Dec. 1, 2025 /CNW/ – ADM Aéroports de Montréal is delighted to announce that it has won the 2025 Eureka Award in the Transportation Organization category, presented by Écotech Québec, for developing and successfully testing its new ECOWAY50 de-icing fluid in collaboration with Electro Carbon. This accolade recognizes the quality and innovation of the project and demonstrates the ability of Québec companies to develop sustainable and competitive solutions for the aeronautical industry.

ADM tested this clean technology at its YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel site as part of its drive to implement more sustainable, efficient and responsible airport operations. It offers performance equivalent to conventional de-icers while having a reduced environmental footprint.

“ADM is more committed than ever to conducting its activities in accordance with sustainability principles. This project reflects our determination to integrate clean technologies tailored to the specific context of our airport operations. It also promotes local sourcing and represents a tangible contribution to the fight against climate change. I would like to congratulate the ADM teams as well as those of our partner, Electro Carbon, who are working diligently to turn this ambition into reality,” said Donald Desrosiers, Deputy Vice President, Infrastructure and Life Cycle of ADM.

“This recognition confirms that it is possible to combine operational performance, safety and a reduced environmental footprint,” said Martin Larocque, President and CEO of Electro Carbon Inc. “We are proud to have collaborated with ADM to demonstrate in real-world conditions that a cleaner solution can meet the highest standards for airport winter operations.”

The results obtained with this potassium formate-based solution, certified to AMS 1435E, demonstrate significant environmental potential:

    • 9.6% lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than a conventional de-icer, according to ISO 14064-2;
    • Increased biodegradability and a significant reduction in biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD);
    • Performance equivalent to that of traditional products, while maintaining the highest operational and safety standards.

Following the success of this pilot project, ADM decided to gradually integrate the new de-icer into its airport operations at both the YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel site and YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
