Air Canada has opened its newest Air Canada Café at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB)

The YQB location marks the seventh Air Canada Café, deepening the airline’s investment in the premium customer experience in Québec, and expanding the successful café concept as part of its multi-year global lounge modernization program.

“Travellers love Québec City for its food, charm and character,” said Jacqueline Harkness, Managing Director, Product & Services at Air Canada. “With this new Air Canada Café, we’ve created a space that feels like a love letter to the city – warm, calm, and inspired by its rich and unique character. Québec City is one of Canada’s great treasures, and we’re proud to bring a little taste of its magic into the travel experience.”

Reflecting Air Canada’s Glowing Hearted design philosophy, the new Air Canada Café blends inspiration from Québec’s natural landscape and the charm and character of the Québec City region to create an atmosphere of calm and comfort. The space is anchored by two significant works from celebrated Québecois and Canadian artists. These include Flow, a vibrant abstraction in acrylic, oil and ink on canvas by the award-winning abstract artist Antonietta Grassi, and 1982, a colourful, geometric acrylic on linen by visual artist and novelist Douglas Coupland.

We are also pleased to count on these valued partners to help us develop a modern, attractive airport that meets our passengers’ expectations.”

These include sustained growth in passenger numbers, a solid financial performance, and an assertive positioning as an engine of development for the region.

In 2025, YQB welcomed 1,819,553 passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and marking a 4.7% (+81,500) increase on 2024. This growth is testament to the airport’s appeal and the effectiveness of the initiatives implemented to enhance its offerings and passenger experience.

    Resolutely growing
Fiscal year 2025 is also notable for its robust financial results:

    • Revenues of $101.1 million (+14.4% on 2024)
    • EBITDA to $42.8 million, up from $34.6 million last year
    • Net income of $8.8 million, up from $3.6 million in 2024

These results enable YQB to strengthen its investment capacity and support the implementation of high-impact projects as part of its 2025–2030 strategic plan.

As a not-for-profit organisation, YQB reinvests all financial surpluses in airport infrastructure, services, and development. This includes the redevelopment of the domestic flights arrivals area, which began in spring 2026.

2025 also marked the launch of an ambitious new strategic cycle aimed at reaching 2.4 million passengers by 2030 while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction (rated 9.1/10).

“Galvanized by our desire to propel ourselves forward, the exceptional engagement of our teams, the confidence of our partners, and the invaluable support of regional stakeholders, we have transformed 2025–a year characterised by ongoing uncertainties and lacking in prominence–into a true springboard for growth and substantial accomplishments. With 1.82 million passengers, robust financial performance, and an expanding range of flights and services, we are very proud of how far we have come and are determined to maintain our momentum,” said Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO.

    Resolutely efficient
    YQB also distinguished itself through:

    • The roll-out of new air links (Dallas, Fort-de-France, Montego Bay), increased frequencies, and the announcement of new destinations for 2026
    • Significant growth (10.4%) in cross-border traffic
    • Investments in the passenger experience, including the introduction of two new concessions (Nourcy café traiteur and Spectrum) and the announcement of new services for summer 2026
    • Innovation, with the introduction of a customized screening lane at the passenger security checkpoint
    • Concrete progress in sustainable development, with a 53% reduction in GHG emissions compared to 2016
    • Support for around forty community organizations

YQB has recently launched a campaign designed to showcase its unparalleled flight selection. In 2026, supply will be 15% higher than in 2025, with that percentage reaching nearly 25% over the summer season– a record increase among major Canadian airports, with an additional 376,456 seats (for a total of 2,965,889) available to local travellers and tourists choosing our destination.

“2025 was a milestone year for YQB, and 2026 promises to be just as exciting for our organization. As we embark on a new strategic cycle, we have resolutely chosen to reconcile growth and responsibility in a plan that promotes the development of air services and enhances the passenger experience, operational performance, community commitment, and sustainable development. This trajectory is based on solid foundations and an ambitious vision that will guide our development over the coming years. And we’ll achieve this surrounded by a remarkable team,” added André Boulanger, Chair of the Board of Directors.

  • Unprecedented Selection of Flights at YQB – 376,456 more seats on flights from YQB: Do you have yours?

QUÉBEC CITY, April 13, 2026 /CNW/ – Never before have so many seats been available on flights departing from Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB). In 2026, capacity will be 15% higher than in 2025, with that percentage reaching nearly 25% over the summer season– a record increase among Canadian major airports. In concrete terms, this means that 376,456 additional seats (2,965,889 in total) will be available for travellers from the region and all over Québec.

This growth in capacity sends a clear message: airlines believe in the potential of the Québec City market. However, it also highlights a key issue for the coming years: the market’s ability to support and sustain this increase.

More destinations, more frequent flights, and more varied options
The summer of 2026 will bring a major improvement for people travelling through YQB. Passengers will be able to enjoy more destinations, more frequent flights, and more varied options than ever.

    • More destinations: New international destinations added, including Nantes, Marseille, and Washington
    • More frequent flights: Flights and capacity added for strategic hubs like Vancouver, Paris, and Calgary
    • More varied options: Year-round flights to Fort-de-France, Martinique; return of the Porter flight to Toronto (Pearson); and addition of an American Airlines flight to New York (JFK)

For the summer 2026 season alone, travellers will enjoy 5 more destinations than in 2025.

The number of seats offered at YQB has grown by a remarkable 27% overall since the pre-pandemic years (2019). More specifically, it has grown by:

    • 44% for cross-border flights (to the United States)
    • 111% for international flights
    • 9% for domestic flights (within Canada)

    A collective opportunity worth seizing
At a time when nearly one in two travellers from the Québec City region is still choosing to fly out of another airport, 2026 is a watershed year. After all, the benefits of flying out of Québec City are numerous: a wide range of destinations, nicer facilities, international connectivity, a streamlined travel experience, fewer waits, a friendlier atmosphere, easy access, affordable parking, ability to get back home within 20 minutes… all without the extra costs (gas, long-term parking, hotel stays, meals, longer travel time) involved in flying out of another airport.

Choosing Québec City also means choosing to support the region’s economic and tourism vitality. Each new flight brings significant spin-offs for the tourism industry while making the region even more competitive and attractive.

However, ensuring this historic growth continues will call for unprecedented mobilization of travellers, the business community, and regional stakeholders. Every filled seat directly helps maintain and develop air routes from Québec City.

    A clear ambition for 2030
YQB is aiming to receive 2.4 million passengers by 2030. The year 2026 will be a decisive one for that goal as the attractiveness of the platform is consolidated and all regional stakeholders are mobilized.

    Quotes

“Passengers wanted more destinations, more flights. and more seats. We heard them, and thanks to our excellent relationships with the airlines, that is exactly what they are getting. This achievement was also made possible by a collaborative approach that rallies all of the regional stakeholders, opening the door to new opportunities. Now it’s up to all of us to prove that the airlines were right to believe in our market, by showing up to ensure these routes continue.”

     –  Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of YQB

“The historic increase in seat capacity at the Québec City airport is excellent news for the entire region. It means more tourists, more investment, and more opportunities for our local businesses. Each new flight generates direct economic activity for our businesses, our workers, and our tourism industry. “We are further cementing Air Canada’s global network as one of the most far-reaching from the North American continent. The addition of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, reflects our continued ambition to offer our customers and Aeroplan members an exceptional, diversified array of unique Air Canada destinations. Enabled by the next-generation capabilities of our incoming A321XLR aircraft, travellers on the only non-stop service from North America now have convenient options to reach the island renowned for its stunning volcanic scenery, a rich array of bucket-list activities and year-round warm weather,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada.

“Air Canada is also expanding flights into Latin America from Vancouver, enabled by growing A220 and Air Canada Rouge bases that unlock sought-after, non-stop service to Costa Rica and Mexico, including to Mazatlán, a new Mexican destination. In addition, we are adding Roatán, Santo Domingo and Mérida to our global network, while introducing exciting new leisure options for our customers in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec and Halifax. This connection with Air Canada affords us the opportunity to give Tenerife a boost in these markets with growing demand, not only as a vacation destination, but also as a global hub in strategic sectors such as business and corporate tourism, the audiovisual and cultural industries, as well as cruise tourism with multi-stop itineraries.”

According to Melwani, “The island has spent several years working to improve its positioning in these markets, whose interest in Tenerife continues to grow, although there is still a long way to go. This direct flight makes it possible for Tenerife to reinforce our position as a gateway to Europe for North American travelers, while raising the profile of our cultural, culinary and leisure offering in priority source markets on the current roadmap. We are confident that this connection will increase the visibility of Tenerife as a comprehensive and competitive destination over other international options.”

Air Canada’s Tenerife flights will be operated with the airline’s brand-new Airbus A321XLR aircraft featuring lie-flat seats in the Business Class cabin, bringing a wide-body experience to a narrow-body jet. With capacity for 182 passengers in a configuration of 14 Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats, the A321XLR also marks the beginning of the next era in Air Canada’s cabin interiors with the introduction of a new design standard for onboard experience.

  • Investment of nearly $50 million in YQB – Reorganization of Domestic Flight Arrivals to Support Growth and Enhance Passenger Experience

QUÉBEC CITY, March 25, 2026 /CNW/ – Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is proud to announce the start of the New Infrastructure for Comfort and Efficiency (NICE) project. With this major infrastructure project, YQB will be reorganizating the domestic flight arrivals, adding more space and equipment in this key area to comfortably accommodate twice as many passengers and efficiently process their baggage and cargo.

The domestic arrivals area receives more and more passengers each year, arriving on larger aircraft than in the past. The current area, built in 2008, reaches full capacity several times a week.

Work on the NICE project will begin in April 2026 and continue through to 2028. It will include:

    • The installation of a third baggage carousel dedicated to domestic flights
    • The reconstruction of gates 28 and 29
    • The upgrade of gate 28 to accommodate larger aircraft
    • The creation of a new baggage and cargo unloading area
    • The reorganization of the baggage claim areas
    • The addition of new facilities for partners with airside access
    • The reorganization of the conference room
    • The renovation of restroom facilities and the creation of new restrooms
    • The addition of 4,500 m² across two levels

The project, which requires a total of $47.8 million in investments, is receiving $12.5 million in funding from the Government of Canada through the National Trade Corridors Fund program.

“We are investing in infrastructure that is essential to our growth, aligned with our goal of welcoming 2.4 million passengers by 2030–a 35% increase. In this context, the project is necessary to continue providing a smooth passenger experience and modern, state-of-the-art facilities for our partners,” said Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. “We are grateful for the Government of Canada’s support in helping fund this major project, which is crucial for our development and for ensuring that people and cargo can continue to move smoothly through our airport. The growth of air traffic is a strong driver of socioeconomic development for our region and the province as a whole. The greater Québec City area deserves continued investment to support its development.”

“By modernizing the domestic arrivals area at Québec City Jean-Lesage International Airport, we are helping the airport accommodate more passengers, handle baggage and cargo more efficiently, and better respond to the growth in air traffic. This investment, made possible by the National Commercial Corridors Fund, improves travel flow, strengthens regional connectivity, and supports the long-term economic development of the greater Quebec City region” said the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.

“With this $50 million investment at YQB, including $12.5 million from the Government of Canada, we are modernizing a key piece of infrastructure for the Québec City region,” mentioned the Honourable Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement and Quebec Lieutenant. “This project will double passenger capacity and provide a smoother travel experience, while supporting the region’s economic growth.

“Our airport is an integral part of our vision for comprehensive mobility in Québec City,” stated Yannick Fauteux, councillor for the Cap-Rouge-Laurentien district and chair of the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC). “Offering citizens more options so they can travel using their preferred mode of transportation also promotes interregional mobility, and therefore increases the appeal of domestic flights departing from Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. This investment is promising for the future of air service to the greater Québec City area, with the associated economic benefits” he added.

This major project for YQB has been carefully developed to maximize the value of the investment. Strong planning, along with close collaboration with the airport community, will allow the project to proceed while keeping the area operational and minimizing impacts on operations and passenger comfort.

Montreal has been a central part of Porter’s strategy since it began flying to Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) when the airline was founded in 2006. MET’s opening allows for a rapid 91% expansion of Porter’s peak summer capacity in the region, including six new non-stop destinations. There are as many as 244 weekly departures from the city–138 from MET and 106 from YUL.

New flights at MET complement Porter’s continuing commitment to Montreal-Trudeau. By serving both airports, Porter is offering passengers more choice, flexibility, and convenience in selecting their flights and destinations.

In the last three years, Porter has introduced 52 E195-E2s into its fleet. This enabled rapid growth throughout North America, including transcontinental flights in Canada and the U.S., plus service to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The airline continues expanding its network, which currently includes 112 routes across 49 year-round and seasonal destinations.

Its arrival at MET is part of this plan to have an even stronger presence across Canada. A partnership with regional airline Pascan, based at MET, also provides improved connectivity throughout Quebec’s regions and the Maritimes. Passengers are able to purchase a single ticket that includes flights on both airlines, with seamless baggage connections.

Porter has earned recognition as a top airline within North America. It is celebrated for a refined and caring service culture, complementary premium snacks, a choice of beverages, including free beer and wine served in real glassware, plus free, fast WiFi on its E195-E2 aircraft. The airline’s generous service, combined with MET’s exceptional passenger experience, will elevate the art of travelling.

“The new MET terminal development represents an exceptional private investment in transportation infrastructure that Greater Montreal will benefit from for generations. Porter is bringing a wide range of flight options to the airport, along with a genuine commitment to the community. Our philosophy is to treat everyone with care and this is perfectly complemented by the overall travel experience passengers will enjoy at MET. We are eager to begin this journey with an unprecedented amount of new service.”
    – Michael Deluce, CEO, Porter Airlines

“MET is very proud to count on Porter Airlines as a leading strategic partner in enhancing connectivity for Greater Montreal across Canada. With Porter’s strong presence at MET, the opening of the new terminal is built on solid foundations and promises a reliable and forward-looking future for the greatest benefit of passengers.”
