  • New Solar Farm Construction underway at Saskatoon Airport

14 August 2025 – Saskatoon, SK: YXE Saskatoon Airport has begun construction on a new 1-megawatt solar farm that will supply up to 20 percent of the terminal building’s power needs once completed later this fall.

Visible to airport guests along Idylwyld Drive, the project marks another step toward the Saskatoon Airport Authority’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“At YXE, our sustainability program is an important strategic initiative,” said Stephen Maybury, President and CEO of the Saskatoon Airport Authority. “From strategic investments in energy efficiency to renewable energy projects like this solar farm, we are proud of the progress we’ve made in reducing our environmental footprint and remain committed to making our long-term vision of net-zero emissions a reality.”

The airport already operates a smaller solar array at its Maintenance Operations Centre, which generates 33,200 kWh annually and reduces carbon emissions by 26 tonnes each year.

Since 2015, overall carbon reduction initiatives at YXE have successfully lowered the airport’s carbon footprint by 27 percent.

The solar farm project reflects Saskatoon Airport’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes innovative energy solutions, enhanced waste management practices, and robust wildlife conservation efforts, ensuring environmentally responsible operations while maintaining exceptional passenger service.

  • YXE Saskatoon Airport Closes 2024 with Growth and Optimism

    1 May 2025, released 28 January 2025

Saskatoon, SK:  The YXE Saskatoon Airport (YXE) is proud to reflect on a year marked by resilience and growth. As we reflect on 2024, YXE celebrates milestones that highlight the airport’s commitment to excellence, sustainability, and connectivity. We saw a strong increase in passenger traffic of approximately 15% growth year over year which is equivalent to approximately 99% recovery when compared to 2019 levels.

In May, YXE proudly welcomed Porter Airlines to Saskatchewan with the launch of direct service from Saskatoon to Toronto Pearson International Airport, providing passengers with seamless access to Porter’s large network of destinations. The return of Air Canada’s seasonal direct service to Montréal and WestJet’s increased route frequencies, including the increase to daily flights to Minneapolis over the summer, all contributed to enhanced connectivity, broadened travel opportunities, and improved one-stop hub options for passengers.

Subsequent to receiving the Airport’s Council International Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award for Best Airport in North America under 2 million passengers in 2023, our continued and persistent dedication to the ASQ program reaffirms our commitment to providing an exceptional passenger experience with a focus on prioritizing comfort, convenience, and efficiency for every traveler that uses our airport.

YXE remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship. Throughout 2024, we worked with our stakeholders on the development of our Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) plan, outlining our strategy and efforts that align with our vision of fostering a sustainable future by thoughtfully managing our responsibilities today.

As we begin 2025, YXE is excited for what lies ahead. In addition to plans for the development of a 1 MW solar facility, a major arrivals hall renovation, and the replacement of our main escalators, we will continue to focus on expanding air service, maintaining an exceptional guest experience, and advancing sustainability initiatives.

“2024 was a year of growth for YXE,” says Stephen Maybury, President and CEO of the Saskatoon Airport Authority. “We are deeply grateful to our passengers, partners, community and YXE team members who made this year’s success possible. As we look to 2025, we are ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of the year ahead.”
