  • Porter flights to arrive in Mont Tremblant as snow falls for winter

    TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2018 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is reintroducing its annual winter service between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Mont Tremblant, Que. Flights operate from December 7, 2018, to April 1, 2019.

    The early December start date allows visitors to attend the popular 24 Hours of Tremblant season kickoff charitable event and enjoy pre-Christmas time in the village.

    The standard schedule includes four weekly flights throughout the season, with adjustments for increased frequencies during peak periods, such as Christmas, Family Day and March Break.

    Mont Tremblant is a premiere winter locale that Porter has served for more than a decade. Its charm and energy is found on and off the slopes, making for a diverse destination that suits adventure seekers, romantics and foodies.

    Non-stop flights from Billy Bishop Airport take approximately 70 minutes. Connecting flights are available from numerous Porter locations in Canada and the U.S.

    The Mont Tremblant International Airport (MTIA) is offering two special promotions this ski season. Passengers receive two free weekday ski lift tickets when they arrive on a Sunday or Monday and depart on a Thursday or Friday.   • ALS Canada Brings the Eighth Annual Plane Pull to End ALS to Billy Bishop Airport

    The October 20, 2018, event is an opportunity for corporate teams to pull a 37,000-lb plane 100 meters and raise funds to support a future without ALS.

    TORONTO, Sept. 17, 2018 /CNW/ – Today, ALS Canada is excited to announce that the eighth annual Plane Pull to End ALS will take place at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on Saturday, October 20. Hosted by comedian Justin Landry, this signature fundraising event challenges teams of 10-12 people to work together to pull a 37,000-lb Porter Airlines plane — by hand — 100 meters to raise funds for ALS Canada.

    Last year’s winning team pulled the plane in just 44 seconds. This year’s fundraising goal is $90,000 and net proceeds from the event will be invested in community-based support, advocacy and research for a future without ALS.

    “The Plane Pull for ALS is an incredibly unique, team-building experience and an opportunity for the corporate community to rally behind a cause that is so in need of support — ALS is a terminal disease of progressive paralysis with no cure, it steals lives within two to five years of diagnosis,” said Tammy Moore, CEO, ALS Canada. “This new partnership with Porter Airlines and PortsToronto will give our highly-motivated teams a first-class experience like no other and at the same time they will be making a difference.”

    For the first time ever, the Plane Pull will offer participants a rare opportunity to experience Billy Bishop Airport as they never have before. Starting at 8:00 am Saturday morning, teams will be given their security and safety briefing as they are shuttled across the runway to the event area. Once airside, the 10-person teams will be assembled, rope in hand to pull a Porter Airlines plane as fast as they can. As they return to the terminal, the event will continue until 1:30 pm with awards, prizes, food and music with DJ Docta.

    “Every plane pull needs a plane, and we’re able to contribute this, along with the support of our team members,” said Robert Deluce, President and CEO, Porter Airlines. “This is an ideal event for Porter to get involved with at our home airport.”

  • Billy Bishop Airport Has Record-Breaking Summer Welcoming More than 817,000 Passengers from June to August

    August Busiest Month on Record with 285,811 Passengers

    TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2018 /CNW/ – PortsToronto, owners and operators of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, today confirmed that it experienced its busiest summer on record with 817,171 passengers arriving and departing through the airport from June to August 2018. Both Porter Airlines and Air Canada contributed to the high passenger numbers, which were a combination of leisure and business travellers.

    “Whether travelling to Toronto, New York, Ottawa or Montreal for business meetings or taking off to Boston or Halifax for a fun summer getaway, more and more people are choosing our airport for its unique passenger service which includes complimentary shuttle service, comfortable lounges, shorter lines and proximity to downtown,” said Gene Cabral, Executive Vice President, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and PortsToronto. “This summer also marked a busy time for infrastructure development at the airport with the completion of our airfield rehabilitation project and the ongoing completion of the terminal upgrade which includes larger passenger lounges. We are proud that we were able to introduce improved facilities and infrastructure at the same time as providing a high level of service and efficiency to passengers.”

    Billy Bishop Airport experienced record-breaking monthly passenger levels recording 267,094 passengers in June; 264,866 passengers in July; and 285,211 passengers in August, surpassing the previous monthly record, which was set in August 2017, by nearly 12,000. Billy Bishop Airport serviced 2.8 million passengers in 2017 and is currently the ninth busiest airport in Canada.
