Today, Central Mountain Air announced service between Vancouver and Castlegar starting on October 1st. The service will be provisioned with Beechcraft 1900D aircraft, which doesn’t have side-by-side seating and allows for physical distancing on all flights.

Castlegar is known as a challenging airport due to weather and its location. Central Mountain Air is well equipped to fly this route as they’ve been flying to airports across British Columbia since 1987. This provincial familiarity will help in providing as reliable of a schedule as the weather permits. Moreover, mid-day flights create the highest probability for good weather and connectivity into broader airline networks.

“We know our airport is important to the region, and we’ve been working tirelessly to bring passenger service back to customers looking for travel options at the West Kootenay Regional Airport,” says Mayor of Castlegar, Bruno Tassone. “Safety will be our top priority, and we’re implementing new COVID-19 health and safety measures in the terminal and on flights to ensure the public can feel confident when travelling with us.”

Our safety protocols enable us to confidently protect you and your loved ones. During COVID-19, we have introduced new and expanded existing procedures regarding our aircraft, facilities, customers and employees, along with adjusted check-in and in-flight procedures. Examples are cleaning on every turn and the vigilance of all parties wearing masks. We have sanitization goodie bags with masks and wipes for everyone on board and gloves for those that request them. We have also extended our flexible change policy to include all fares for the booking availability period of service into Castlegar.

“Central Mountain Air would like to thank the City of Castlegar for their support in bringing air service to the region.”, said Bob Cummings, CEO of Central Mountain Air. “We are committed to enabling economic recovery in the region and safely connecting Castlegar and the surrounding community with relatives and friends. We look forward to seeing you on board.”
