May 22, 2026 (Edmonton, AB) – Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is moving forward with the redevelopment of its North Tower, a significant investment in modernizing terminal infrastructure, improving safety and strengthening the airport’s long-term operational resilience.

The 63,000-square-foot North Tower redevelopment will be delivered by Clark Builders . The project includes safety upgrades, improvements to the building envelope, modernization of elevators, refreshed interior spaces and new infrastructure to support future tenant fit-outs. Located in a highly visible area of the terminal, the redevelopment represents an important step in preparing YEG for future passenger and business growth.
YEG’s North Tower first opened in 1963 and hosted the airport’s corporate offices and air traffic control tower until the completion of the current Central Office Tower (COT) built as part of YEG’s 2012 Capital Expansion.
Travelers should expect additional construction activity starting May 25, including alternating lane closures on the Departures level. Visitors are encouraged to use the South Pedway or ground level to connect to/from the terminal, and follow the posted pedestrian, traffic and construction signage. Additional staff will be on site to help with navigation. While we expect minimal delays, we recommend travelers give themselves a little extra time and arrive early.
“These improvements are essential to ensure YEG continues to meet the needs of our passengers, partners and the regions we serve,” said Peter Agnew, Vice President, Infrastructure & Facilities. “While there will be some short-term impacts from construction around the airport, this work supports long-term improvements to safety, reliability and the overall experience for passengers. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we invest in infrastructure that will benefit travelers and the region for years to come.”
To mitigate delays due to construction and some impacts to Arrivals Paid parking, YEG encourages drivers to plan ahead and consider alternative options:
- Arrive early.
- If you are picking someone up, use the Park & Wait lot and only enter the Arrivals Free curb once your traveler is ready to be picked up.
- Park in the Parkade if you plan to leave your vehicle and enter the terminal.
- Avoid stopping or parking in unauthorized areas, which can cause congestion and delays.
