#1 in Canada, #6 in North America for On-Time Performance
EDMONTON, Alberta, October 3, 2024—Flair Airlines, Canada’s champion of air travel affordability, has soared to the top spot as the country’s most on-time airline for the month of September, achieving an impressive 83.4% on-time performance. Demonstrating Flair’s unwavering commitment to reliability, the airline is dedicated to ensuring passengers arrive on time, every time.
“At Flair, we understand that our passengers’ most valuable resources are their time and money,” said Flair Airlines Interim CEO Maciej Wilk. “While we aim for perfection, we recognize that disruptions can happen. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have outperformed all other Canadian airlines in on-time performance this September. It’s a testament to our focus on continuous improvement and delivering exceptional value to travellers.”
Flair’s on-time performance (OTP) placed it #6 across all North America, outpacing competitors such as WestJet (#11), Porter (#14), and Air Canada (#17). Flair’s OTP was 83.4%, WestJet achieved 82.1%, Porter at 80.8%, and Air Canada lagged at 77.1%.
Regarding flight completion, Flair achieved a robust 98.4% completion rate, just shy of Porter’s 98.8%. Flair, traditionally a leader in completed flights, is eager to reclaim the top spot in the coming months.
“Competition in Canadian aviation is crucial,” added Wilk. “We embrace it wholeheartedly. While we didn’t top the completion factor this time, we’re ready to reclaim that title soon. The impact of Calgary’s hailstorm has been challenging, but as we bring our full fleet back online, we’re confident that Flair will continue to set new standards for performance.”
The severe hailstorm that struck Calgary on August 5 caused an estimated $2.8 billion in damages, and its effects were felt well into September. Despite this, Flair’s resilience in overcoming these challenges speaks volumes about the strength of its operation.
“Our fleet took a hit during the hailstorm, but the recovery showcased the incredible resilience of our team,” said Wes Cruickshank, VP of Maintenance at Flair Airlines. “The way we re-accommodated passengers, minimized disruptions and kept our service going highlights how far we’ve come. We’ve grown from the ‘Little Airline that Could’ into a key player in Canadian aviation. Canadians need Flair, and we’re proud to be there for them.”
Flair continues its sustainability commitment, reporting 56.5 grams per kilometre of carbon emissions in September. While this was slightly higher than the previous month, it remains within the range of efficiency that Flair is known for. Notably, Flair remains the only airline in Canada to voluntarily release its carbon emissions data monthly, showcasing its dedication to transparency and environmental responsibility.
In September, Flair transported 363,482 passengers with a load factor of 87.3%, a slight dip from August, as travel patterns shift post-summer. As Flair heads into the busy winter season, the airline remains laser-focused on reliability, punctuality, and rebuilding trust.
Later this month, Flair will unveil exciting new initiatives designed to further enhance customer confidence and demonstrate its commitment to excellence. These efforts aim to repair reputational damage and reinforce Flair’s position as Canada’s most reliable low-cost airline.
