  • NAV CANADA and CAE form partnership to train Air Traffic Controllers and Flight Service Specialists

    • CAE to deliver initial training for air traffic controllers and flight service specialists at the new Air Traffic Services Training Centre in Montreal.
    • Partnership increases training capacity at NAV CANADA across the country and is expected to support the training for over 500 additional students by 2028.

    MONTREAL, April 16, 2024 /CNW/ – (NYSE: CAE) (TSX: CAE) – NAV CANADA and CAE today announced that they have signed a strategic agreement to increase training capacity for crucial air traffic services professionals. Under this first-of-its-kind partnership in Canada, CAE instructors will deliver initial training for Flight Service Specialists and Air Traffic Controllers using NAV CANADA’s training curriculum and courseware. The first classes will begin in the fall of 2024 at a new purpose-built Air Traffic Services Training Centre on CAE’s campus in Montreal.

    This agreement leverages the expertise of two Canadian industry leaders to innovate and address future air traffic management requirements. As the world’s largest aviation training provider, CAE is uniquely positioned to work hand in hand with NAV CANADA, the second-largest Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) worldwide, to develop a highly proficient workforce and ensure the safety and efficiency of the air traffic system. The partnership will provide additional training capacity as NAV CANADA continues to fully deliver existing training programs from its training units across the country.

    This partnership will generate new career opportunities at both companies. NAV CANADA is building a pipeline of air traffic services professionals by recruiting over 500 additional students by 2028 who will be trained by CAE. CAE is recruiting training centre staff to deliver training in line with Transport Canada’s requirements and CAE’s rigorous standards of training excellence.

    As NAV CANADA turns to CAE to supplement its training needs, its current Flight Information Regions (FIR) school delivery is ongoing with full force and continues to offer all specialties and on-the-job training. All students who will qualify at CAE will be meeting the same curriculum, level of standards, and threshold testing as students trained at NAV CANADA.

  • First full flight simulator with gaming-engine-powered CAE Prodigy image generator achieves level D qualification

    • CAE Prodigy leverages Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to enhance visuals for pilot training

    CAE today announced that it is the first leading aviation simulation and training organization to seamlessly integrate a gaming engine into its full-flight simulator (FFS) visual system and achieve level D qualification*, the highest level of qualification for a FFS. The FFS is equipped with the next-generation CAE Prodigy Image Generator (IG), which leverages gaming technology through Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, marrying highly realistic 3D visuals with high-end full-motion simulation for more realistic pilot training in a virtual environment.

    *Level D qualification under the EASA CS-FSTD(A) Issue 2 regulation. A level D simulator fidelity is at such high level that pilots transitioning to a new aircraft can perform all their training in the simulator instead of the aircraft.

    MONTREAL, March 8, 2024 /CNW/ – Today on International Women’s Day, Air Canada and CAE are proud to announce the eight winners of the 2024 Captain Judy Cameron Scholarships. The two Montreal-based global aviation companies have again joined forces, to award scholarships to eight women from across Canada who are pursuing careers as commercial pilots or aircraft maintenance engineers. The four CAE recipients training to become commercial pilots will become CAE Women in Flight program ambassadors and play a key role in encouraging more women to pursue careers in aviation.

    The Captain Judy Cameron Scholarship, now in its fifth year, was established in honour of Air Canada’s first female pilot. Scholarships are awarded annually by Air Canada and CAE in conjunction with the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, to foster the next generation of women in aviation.

    About Captain Judy Cameron

    Judy Cameron became the first female pilot hired by Air Canada, Canada’s largest airline, in April 1978 at the age of 23. She was the first woman to graduate ;Selkirk College’s Aviation Technology Program in 1975. Throughout her flying career of 40 years and over 23,000 hours, she has flown the DC-3, Twin Otter, Hawker Siddeley 748, DC-9, Lockheed 1011, Airbus 320, Boeing 767, and Boeing 777 to the far corners of the world. She became a captain in 1997 and in 2010, she became the first female captain in Canada of a Boeing 777, the largest aircraft in Air Canada’s fleet. She retired in 2015, received the Elsie MacGill Northern Lights award in the Flight Operations category that year, and in 2016 she was chosen by the 99s (International Organization of Women Pilots) to be on its Canadian postage stamp.

    In 2019, Air Canada committed to awarding $20,000 per year for three years toward the Captain Judy Cameron scholarship, and in 2021 re-committed its support for an additional three years. Last year, CAE added its support to the scholarship through its Women in Flight ambassador program.

    The Captain Judy Cameron Scholarship is open to women who are Canadian citizens and who are enrolled in a fixed wing aviation flight program at a college, university, or flight school, or an aircraft repair and maintenance program anywhere in Canada.

    The Scholarship is administered by the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, which inspires and celebrates Canadian women in aviation and aerospace with mentorship, scholarships, a speaker’s bureau, and junior board, along with an annual award event.

    About the CAE Women in Flight Ambassador Program

    The CAE Women in Flight Ambassador program is helping to create a movement that encourages young girls and women to dream big and have no limits. Because women make up a very small percentage of commercial pilots worldwide, this program shows women that they, too, can reach for the sky. CAE is partnering with airline customers globally to provide partially funded and fully funded pilot training scholarships to deserving women who also become program ambassadors who inform and inspire other women to become pilots.

    The program was launched in 2018 and expanded in July 2022 to grow the movement by forging partnerships with more airline customers. Initially, the program was limited to candidates enrolled in one of CAE’s airline-sponsored cadet training programs. However, with the program’s evolution, CAE now matches existing airline scholarships. The program aims to build a community of ambassadors who demonstrate leadership skills, active community involvement, perseverance, and passion for aviation and can inspire women to join the pilot profession.

  • CAE’s CEO Marc Parent to be inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation

    MONTREAL, Jan. 11, 2024 /CNW/ – (NYSE: CAE) (TSX: CAE) – CAE President and Chief Executive Officer Marc Parent will be inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation during the organization’s annual gala on January 19, 2024. The Living Legends of Aviation are individuals who are recognized for their exceptional contribution to the field. This year’s other Living Legend inductees will include Prince Harry (The Duke of Sussex), Fred George (a U.S. Navy pilot and world-renowned aviation writer), and Steve Hinton (an American aviator who held a world-speed record from 1979 to 1989).

    “For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about aviation and driven by the desire to make the world safer. I feel humbled to be joining the ranks of some of the most iconic figures of this industry,” said Marc Parent. “In the same way that I have been influenced by the Living Legends who came before me, I hope the stories of today’s aviation leaders inspire the next generation to take to the skies and become the Living Legends of tomorrow.”

    Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, Marc has helped shape the aerospace industry in Canada and around the world. At just 17, he earned his private pilot’s licence, two years before his driver’s permit. Marc graduated from Mechanical Engineering at Montreal’s École Polytechnique in 1984 and joined Canadair as an engineer on the Challenger and Canadair Regional Jet programs. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Parent held numerous executive positions within Bombardier Aerospace, leading a number of facilities and product lines. He ran operations for Bombardier’s de Havilland site in Toronto. Later, he held the position of Vice President and General Manager, U.S. Operations, with responsibilities encompassing Learjet facilities in Wichita, Kansas, and Tucson, Arizona. In 2004, he returned to Montreal as Vice President and General Manager of the Challenger 300, 604, and 850/870 programs as well as the CRJ 200 Regional Aircraft product line.

    Marc joined CAE in 2005 and became President and CEO in 2009. He has led the company to grow beyond simulation products to become the largest provider of civil aviation training services worldwide, and a global leader in training and mission support solutions for defence and security forces. Under his leadership, CAE has transformed into a tech leader, bringing the digital and physical worlds closer together through cutting-edge technology.

    Committed to accelerating the development and safe adoption of world-changing innovations, Marc led CAE to become the first Canadian aerospace company to be carbon-neutral in 2020.     The annual Captain Judy Cameron Scholarships, established in honour of Air Canada’s first female pilot to help foster the next generation of women following in her trailblazing footsteps, are awarded in conjunction with the Northern Lights Aero Foundation.

    The Captain Judy Cameron scholarships were launched in 2019 and initially awarded to four recipients. Since 2023, Air Canada and CAE have joined forces to double the number of recipients and award eight scholarships to deserving women.

Throughout her flying career of 40 years and over 23,000 hours, she has flown the DC-3, Twin Otter, Hawker Siddeley 748, DC-9, Lockheed 1011, Airbus 320, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777 to the far corners of the world. She became a captain in 1997 and in 2010, she became the first female captain in Canada of a Boeing 777, the largest aircraft in Air Canada’s fleet. She retired in 2015, received the Elsie MacGill Northern Lights award in the Flight Operations category that year, and in 2016 she was chosen by the 99s (International Organization of Women Pilots) to be on its Canadian postage stamp. Today, Captain Cameron continues her volunteer work mentoring and supporting the next generation of female pilots with the Northern Lights Aero Foundation.

    CAE’s Women in Flight Ambassador program is helping create a movement to encourage young girls and women to dream big and have no limits. As only five percent of pilots worldwide are women, this program is geared to show women that they too can reach for the sky. The new program builds on CAE’s previous Master Technician program by offering technicians the flexibility to enhance their skills and competencies along two distinct tracks: Specialist and People Leader.

    The new Master Technician Program addresses the need for independent certification of technical and leadership skills as the industry faces unprecedented demand for aircraft maintenance technicians. CAE’s 2023 Aviation Talent Forecast predicts a need for 402,000 new maintenance technicians industrywide over the next 10 years – 74,000 in business aviation.

  • Air Transat and CAE file flight plan for aspiring pilots with launch of Ascension Academy

    MONTREAL, Sept. 21, 2023 /CNW/ – Air Transat and CAE today announced the launch of Ascension Academy, a new cadet training program that enables the airline to build a pipeline of qualified pilots trained to the highest standards. The Ascension Academy program offers aspiring pilots a pathway to earn their wings at CAE’s flight academy, and the opportunity to begin their career as a second-in-command upon completion of their type rating with Air Transat.     • B737NG full-flight simulator to be deployed

    MADRID, Sept. 18, 2023 /CNW/ – CAE and Air Europa today announced that they are building on their longstanding partnership with a long-term agreement to provide pilot and cabin crew training in Madrid, Spain. As part of this agreement, CAE will deploy a B737NG full-flight simulator (FFS) at its Madrid training centre in October 2023. The latest-generation CAE 7000 XR-Series Level D FFS will provide an immersive pilot training experience and add training capacity to support the growth of Air Europa and Air Europa Express. In addition, CAE Madrid will become Air Europa’s cabin crew training base, with a new B787 door trainer bringing new capabilities to the centre.

    “The continuous training of our professionals is a key part of Air Europa’s operational strategy. Doing so with CAE’s solutions and resources has been a guarantee of efficiency and good service for years, and we are pleased to be able to renew that trust, especially now that we have completed our fleet unification process around the Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 787 models”, said John Baiget, Air Europa’s Chief Operating Officer.

Over 800 Air Europa and Air Europa Express pilots and 2,000 cabin crew will be trained annually at the two centres.

    Embraer-CAE Training Services (ECTS) will launch a new pilot training program and deploy a state-of-the-art E-Jet E2 full-flight simulator (FFS) at the Singapore-CAE Flight Training Centre where training is scheduled to begin in December 2023. E2 pilot and cabin crew training programs will be gradually expanded to strategic locations within CAE’s global network to support aircraft deliveries.
