  • Hamilton International Doubling Winter Flights For Coming Season

    Ontario’s Hamilton International Airport has a full slate of winter flights on the way and twice the winter capacity as last year.

    John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is happy to announce that its winter seat capacity is twice the size of last year, thanks to the return of several popular destinations, as well as the launch of some new routes this winter. Whether passengers want to fly to destinations in Canada, Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe, Hamilton International wants customers to know ‘we fly there’.

    Year-round service continues from Hamilton to Abbotsford, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax with partners Air Canada, Swoop or WestJet. In October, Swoop will also introduce service to the popular U.S. destinations of Las Vegas, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa Bay. Returning sun destinations in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico will be served by Air Transat, Sunwing or Swoop.

    At the end of March, Norwegian Airlines will commence non-stop, daily service from Hamilton to Dublin, Ireland. This new route will be the Airport’s first and much-anticipated transatlantic service from Hamilton in 10 years.

    Here are some additional details providing more information about the exciting 2018/2019 winter program for each airline flying from Hamilton International Airport:

    – Air Canada will introduce a third daily flight from Hamilton to Montreal on October 29. This mid-day flight will offer fantastic options to passengers looking to travel from Hamilton to additional connecting destinations in Canada such as Ottawa, Quebec City and St. John’s through Air Canada’s Montreal hub. In addition, ideal connections are also available to the U.S. destinations of New York, Chicago, Boston; the Europe destinations of London, Paris and Frankfurt; and the destinations of Tokyo and Shanghai in Asia.

    – Air Transat will bring back weekly flights to Cuba (Varadero – Saturday and Cayo Coco – Sunday), Dominican Republic (Punta Cana – Sunday and Puerto Plata – Monday) along with twice weekly to Mexico (Cancun – Tuesday, Saturday).

    – Norwegian launches daily direct service from Hamilton to Dublin, Ireland beginning March 31, 2019. This new exciting transatlantic service will offer customers more connections throughout Europe via Dublin to destinations such as Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki.

    – Sunwing will also offer weekly flights to Cuba (Varadero – Wednesday) and Dominican Republic (Punta Cana – Friday) along with air service to Jamaica (Montego Bay – Thursday).

    – Swoop will offer a robust winter schedule for passengers looking to travel across Canada with daily frequencies to Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Halifax as well as popular U.S. destinations in Florida such as twice weekly flights to Fort Lauderdale (Friday, Saturday) as well as three times weekly service to Orlando (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday) and Tampa Bay (Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday). Swoop will also operate four weekly flights to Las Vegas (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday) from Hamilton. In addition to this list of destinations, today Swoop announced that this December it will begin service to Montego Bay, Jamaica twice weekly (Wednesday, Sunday).

    – WestJet will continue to offer daily direct flights from Hamilton to Calgary which will offer travelers great connections to destinations in California, Hawaii and beyond.

  • Montego Bay, Jamaica is Swoop’s newest destination

    CALGARY, AB – September 12, 2018 /CNW/ – Today Swoop announced Montego Bay, Jamaica as its first Caribbean sun-destination. Twice weekly service from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) begins December 16, 2018 through to April 24, 2019.

    Swoop is the first Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier to provide sun-service from Canada to the U.S. and Caribbean, with the addition of Montego Bay complementing the five U.S destinations that were announced with the winter schedule release on August 2, 2018.

    Flights are now available for booking through to April 24, 2019.

  • Flair Airlines leaves Hamilton for Toronto in New Domestic Schedule

    Flair AirlinesEDMONTON, Aug. 3, 2018 /CNW/ – Flair, Canada’s low-fare airline, today announced its domestic service for October 28 to April 2019. The schedule release is the precursor to Flair’s southbound, winter flying which will be announced early next week. New direct routes include, daily service from Toronto to Winnipeg, with connections to Calgary and Vancouver; this is an addition to the current daily service from Toronto to Edmonton which connects to Kelowna and Vancouver. Calgary will also have new direct, daily service to Abbotsford.

    Victoria and Halifax remain seasonal routes and, as planned, services there will conclude on October 27, 2018, with an expected return in the Spring of 2019. After extensive analysis, Flair will withdraw service from Hamilton International Airport.

    David Tait, Flair’s Executive Chairman stated, “The decision to move all of our Southern Ontario operations to Toronto was a difficult one for us. We have greatly enjoyed partnering with Hamilton airport and anticipate a return. Flair has grown the market by single-handedly adding capacity, more destinations and bringing ultra-low fares to the region. We now look forward to serving our loyal passengers from the Greater Toronto area from Pearson International Airport.”

    Flair will conclude service from Hamilton on October 27, 2018. Flights are now open for reservations on all domestic routes through the fall and winter.

    Even though Pearson costs are higher, Flair’s yields and passenger load factors were higher for its flights to Edmonton and consistently outperformed flights from Hamilton, she said.

    Routes to Winnipeg and Edmonton will be transferred to Toronto while seasonal flights between Halifax and Toronto are slated to start next spring.

    Flair will next week announce its first service to the United States with flights to six destinations starting in December. It is also finalizing a change in aircraft type.

    The airline had the John C. Munro airport in Hamilton to itself as an ultra low cost carrier until WestJet’s Swoop subsidiary set up its eastern Canadian base of operations in June.

    Asked if there is room for two ultra low cost competitors in Hamilton, Rempel said Flair isn’t sticking around to find out.

    WestJet declined to comment on Flair’s move but spokeswoman Lauren Stewart said its success over the years demonstrates that the Hamilton community loves the combination of low fares and the guest experience.

    “We are now providing the community with more options with the creation of Swoop which positions us to compete against other ULCCs and serve our markets appropriately, ensuring the continued growth and expansion of WestJet into a global airline,” she said.

    The Hamilton airport said it was disappointed by Flair’s decision to withdraw, but says it is well-suited for low-cost carriers because its low fees allow the airlines to pass along savings to customers.

    “I think Canadians are looking for those options and Hamilton is geographically very well-positioned to host carriers like Swoop,” said Dina Carlucci, the airport’s director of marketing and communications.

    Despite Flair’s claims about the Hamilton market, Carlucci said the secondary airport is an hour’s drive from Pearson and within reach to nine million people within a two hour driving radius.

    In addition to Swoop, Norwegian Airlines plans to launch service next spring to Dublin.

    Transat and Sunwing are considering expanding their seasonal service and Air Canada is preparing to increase the frequency of its daily service to Montreal to three flight a day, she said.

    “It is disappointing that Flair is stepping away but there’s equally a lot of interest and I’m not even naming the other carriers we’re in talks with now that I’m not privy to disclose.”

  • Swoop releases domestic winter schedule

    Third aircraft in position to inaugurate service between Edmonton and Abbotsford

  • Swoop launches service on sold-out flight from Edmonton

    Airline announces Edmonton as second operational base

The sold-out flight is scheduled to depart at 10:25 AM MDT. In addition to the first flight, Swoop announced Edmonton as its second operational base.

  • Norwegian continues expansion in Ireland with first route to Canada

Commencing on March 31, 2019, the new daily service between Dublin and Hamilton (near Toronto) will mark the first direct flight between the two cities, providing passengers with greater choice and flexibility at an affordable price.

    Norwegian’s daily nonstop flights from Dublin to Hamilton will be operated using brand new Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft offering 189 seats in a high quality, modern single class cabin.

    Norwegian will continue its growth at Dublin by continuing its summer 2018 schedule into the winter. Irish customers will continue to benefit from a double daily service to Stewart, New York and daily flights to Providence, which offers passengers more affordable access to the tourist centers of New York City, Boston and the New England area.
