  • Porter announces pair of Newfoundland routes coming to Eastern Canada this summer

    Only carrier with non-stop Ottawa-St. John’s service
    Deer Lake joins the Porter network

    TORONTO, Feb. 27, 2024 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is bringing more of its elevated economy experience to Newfoundland travellers this summer. This includes launching the only non-stop Ottawa-St. John’s flight on the market, and the introduction of Deer Lake as a new destination, with service to Halifax.

    Daily roundtrip Ottawa and St. John’s flights start June 6. It’s the first time in five years that any Canadian carrier has served the route. A Porter hub, Ottawa offers passengers connecting flights from St. John’s to over a dozen destinations in Canada and the U.S. This includes Western Canada cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, plus Orlando, Boston and New York.

    This route will be served by the Embraer E195-E2, the quietest single-aisle aircraft on the market. It features 132 seats configured two-by-two (which means no middle seats!), and fast, free WiFi for all passengers.

    Deer Lake is the newest pin on the Porter map, with daily roundtrip service connecting the Newfoundland summer destination with Halifax as of June 4.

    Halifax-Deer Lake will be served by the 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400, which combines speed, noise reduction, and high fuel efficiency for quicker trips across Porter’s Eastern Canada and Northeastern U.S. regional network.

    MONTREAL, Dec. 14, 2023 /CNW/ – Air Canada today announced it is boosting its North American network capacity for summer 2024 with the addition of two new destinations, five new routes, increased flight frequencies on key routes, and earlier resumption of popular seasonal routes in response to projected demand. Air Canada becomes the first Canadian airline to offer service to Tulum*, with flights from Toronto and Montreal to the newest airport in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, and to Charleston, SC from Toronto. Seats are now available for purchase at aircanada.com, via the Air Canada app, Air Canada’s contact centres and through travel agents. Flights to Tulum will be available for sale on December 15.

  • Porter Airlines sees strength in East Coast, increases capacity on three Halifax routes

    St. John’s, Montréal and Ottawa now served with Embraer E195-E2s

    TORONTO, Dec. 11, 2023 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is responding to strong East Coast demand by increasing capacity on three Halifax routes. Beginning March 31, service between St. John’s, Montréal and Ottawa will be operated on the Embraer E195-E2.

    The Halifax-Ottawa route will have three daily, roundtrip flights. St. John’s and Montréal will operate with two daily roundtrips, increasing to three daily in May.

    Porter Airlines is responding to strong East Coast demand by increasing capacity on three Halifax routes. St. John’s, Montréal and Ottawa now served with Embraer E195-E2s (CNW Group/Porter Airlines Inc.)

    The routes are currently operated with the 78-seat Dash 8-400. The Embraer E195-E2 seats 132 passengers in an all-economy cabin. With a two-by-two configuration on both aircraft types, there are no middle seats on any Porter flight.

    On July 1, 2023, PAL Airlines completed its initial Air Canada Express flight under a newly completed commercial agreement between the two carriers, operating from St. John’s International Airport to Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

    ST. JOHN’S, NL, July 5, 2023 /CNW/ – On Saturday, July 1, 2023, PAL Airlines and Air Canada jointly completed the inaugural PAL Airlines operation of an Air Canada Express flight. Operated between St. John’s International Airport and Halifax Stanfield International Airport, this inaugural section was the first flight operated under a newly completed commercial agreement achieved between the two carriers to fortify regional service in eastern Canada.  

    The commercial agreement will see PAL Airlines acquire up to six additional Dash 8-400 aircraft to be progressively introduced into service on behalf of Air Canada for a term of up to five years.
