WestJet connects B.C. in winter 2025/2026 schedule with a new sunny escape and more domestic options

VANCOUVER, BC, July 7, 2025 /CNW/ – WestJet today announced its winter 2025/2026 schedule, strengthening its commitment to British Columbia through the launch of all-new, non-stop seasonal service between Vancouver and Liberia, Costa Rica and enhanced frequency on seven domestic routes. Victoria International Airport will see an overall seat capacity increase of 10 per cent, while Kelowna International Airport will see an overall increase of 11 per cent.

Celebrating the heart of YVR on Airport Workers Day

On Wednesday, June 25, we joined airports across Canada to mark Airport Workers Day.

At YVR, our airport came alive with celebration, gratitude, and community spirit as we recognized the 26,000 employees who keep our airport operating safely and efficiently, connecting B.C. proudly to the world every day.

From Guest Experience to front-line agents, and baggage handlers to airfield maintenance, and food services to security screening, YVR’s workforce keeps the Best Airport in North America running 24/7, 365.

Behind every take off, every touch down and every moment in between are thousands of dedicated individuals who are moving what matters at YVR—connecting the flow of ideas, experiences, investment, people and goods and powers our ability to serve our community and the economy that supports it. This includes serving more than 26 million passengers in 2024, connecting them to 120 destinations worldwide, and supporting supply Canada’s supply chain with 339,000 tonnes of cargo.

Airport Workers Day was established through the Canadian Airports Council (CAC). This year, the CAC continued the celebration by presenting eight national awards to outstanding airport workers across the country. YVR’s very own Vivian Chan, Manager, Airport Capacity, received the Industry Champion Award.

During a ceremony at YVR, we were joined by Councillor Alec Guerin from Musqueam, MP Parm Bains, MP Wade Grant, MP Chak Au, and Councillor Andy Hobbs, whose words of appreciation underscored the vital role of airport workers. Festivities continued, with more than 1,000 ice cream sandwiches distributed to workers in the terminal and an ice cream truck stationed airside.

YVR is preparing for its busiest summer on record! Between June 15 and September 2, we expect to welcome approximately 6.7 million passengers, an average of 85,000 travellers daily. And so, whether you’re headed to Toronto, Calgary, Hong Kong or beyond, here are a few tips to make ensure a seamless travel experience.

Have a Plan
- Check your travel documents: Ensure your passport, ID, visas and any required travel documents are valid and ready to go.
- Stay informed: Check the status of your flight directly with your airline and complete online check-in before arriving at the airport.
- Pre-book your parking: Driving to the airport? Pre-book your parking at yvr.ca/parking to secure your spot and save time.
Pack Smart
- Streamline your security screening experience: Ensure liquids, gels and aerosols in your carry-on are in containers of 100mL or less and packed in a clear, 1L resealable bag.
- Label your luggage: Thousands of items are lost at YVR each month. Clearly label your bags with your contact details so we can help reunite you with your items faster. If you misplace something, file a claim on YVR’s website — there’s no fee to do so.
- Know what you can bring: If you’re returning with food or souvenirs, check what’s allowed before you pack.
Arrive Early
- Recommended arrival times:
- For a domestic flight, plan to be at the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure time.
- For a U.S. or international flight, plan to arrive at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure time.

Porter Airlines first-ever Hamilton flights taking off to Halifax and Vancouver

Inaugural flights coincide with enhanced YHM terminal

HAMILTON / June 3, 2025 – Porter Airlines is celebrating new coast-to-coast air service, with inaugural flights connecting Hamilton to Halifax and Vancouver taking off today. Both routes operate with daily nonstop roundtrip service.

T’way Air to Inaugurate Direct Seoul-Vancouver Service on July 12

First Korean LCC to Fly Seoul-Vancouver as Asia-North America Demand Climbs

VANCOUVER, BC, May 27, 2025 /CNW/ — T’way Air, South Korea’s leading low-cost carrier, will inaugurate its first North American destination with direct service between Seoul and Vancouver on July 12, 2025. Operating four times weekly – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays – the new flights meet growing demand for affordable, long-haul travel across key Asia-Pacific and North American markets.

Air Canada marks AC34 YVR-YYZ on April 27, 2025 as an Indigenous celebratory flight

With a crew of nine flight attendants and pilot, all with Indigenous heritage, the Boeing 777 had onboard numerous members of the First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) from across BC and the Yukon travelling to the 8th Annual FNMPC Conference.

Prior to flight boarding, a symbolic Indigenous ceremony onboard the aircraft was carried out by Mary Point, Director, Indigenous Relations at Vancouver Airport Authority, followed by welcoming remarks by Mary, Jim Hemsworth from Air Canada, and Steve Saddleback from the FNMPC. Mary Point, who is a member of the Musqueam band then sang the traditional Musqueam Paddle Song, signifying cultural connection, a welcome to all, and a blessing before an important journey, before leading passengers down to board the aircraft.

Jim Sa’ke’j Hemsworth is a member of the Mi’gmaq Nation and he is Air Canada’s Manager, Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation. Jim along with the Indigenous employee resource group at Air Canada work to advance initiatives such as career outreach, education and honouring Indigenous cultures.

One such collaboration is with the FNMPC which is a non-profit organization supporting its First Nations members with tools to advance economic growth, environmental support and public policy improvements. As part of this collaboration, Flight AC34 celebrated Air Canada’s Indigenous Peoples, highlighting the professional achievements of Indigenous employees in aviation.

“This flight fosters Indigenous inclusion, honours Indigenous cultures, and sets an example for supporting Indigenous participation in industries. It stands as a strong statement of progress and inclusion,” stated Jim.

Giving thanks and gratitude is a cornerstone of Indigenous communities when coming together. In this spirit, Jim gave thanks before the flight:

“To the people of the Musqueam Nation, thank you for welcoming us onto your lands. Your cedar blessing and the songs you have shared with us are gifts we deeply appreciate.

“A heartfelt thanks to our Indigenous crew for ensuring our safety throughout today’s journey. In doing so, you honour a legacy of care and protection that our ancestors upheld when the first Europeans arrived on these lands—a tradition we continue proudly each day at Air Canada.

WestJet strengthens domestic schedule with three new routes and added capacity for summer 2025

New routes unite Canadian communities, boost East Coast links to Europe

HALIFAX, NS, April 22, 2025 /CNW/ – WestJet today announced a major expansion of its domestic network with new non-stop service between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and three Canadian cities for summer 2025. The expansion includes all-new non-stop service from Saskatoon and Regina and the return of flying between Vancouver and Halifax. In addition, new flights between Winnipeg and St. John’s have been added to the extensive summer schedule. WestJet is also increasing frequency on its popular Halifax routes from Winnipeg and Edmonton, as well as between Calgary and Deer Lake.

YVR voted Best Airport in North America

Global award underscores YVR’s strategic focus and the expertise, dedication and passion of 26,500 airport workers

Musqueam Territory/Richmond, B.C. (April 9, 2025) –Vancouver International Airport | Aéroport international de Vancouver (YVR) has once again been voted Best Airport in North America in the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards. YVR also ranked 13^th in the world’s top 20 airports, an increase of four spots from 2024. These accolades were announced earlier today at a ceremony held in Madrid, Spain.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are widely recognized as the global benchmark for airport excellence, based entirely on passenger feedback through the world’s largest independent customer satisfaction survey. The survey evaluates traveller experiences across different service and product key performance indicators – from check-in, arrivals, transportation, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate. YVR is the only airport to be named Best Airport in North America 14 times in 16 years.

Porter expands service throughout North America this summer

Network capacity increasing by 25%

TORONTO / March 31, 2025 – Porter Airlines is updating its 2025 summer schedule. Increases in capacity are spread across new destinations, the continuation of winter routes into summer, and added frequencies. Domestic flying during this period is now 80% of total network capacity, up from 75% in its original summer plan. This is balanced by targeted frequency reductions in select U.S. markets. Despite the changes, Porter’s presence in the Canada-U.S. market will be 25% larger than last summer.

The summer schedule is supported by 10 additional Embraer E195-E2 aircraft compared to 2024, growing the number of jets in the airline’s fleet to 44 (of an order up to 100). These operate in conjunction with the airline’s regional fleet of 29 De Havilland Dash 8-400s.

“Our goal is to fly where our customers want to travel, and this is a moment Canada is at the top of many people’s list,” said Kevin Jackson, president, Porter Airlines. “We are adding routes and increasing flights in regions across the country to meet this demand.”

Highlights:

Toronto Pearson-Moncton is a new route, which complements existing flights between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport-Moncton and Ottawa-Moncton.
Hamilton-Vancouver service doubles to 14 weekly flights, representative of strong pre-booking demand for this new route taking off in June.
Montre´al-Vancouver and Toronto-St. John’s both double planned service to 14 weekly flights.

“These routes complement existing schedules by creating more non-stop flight options and greater connectivity for travelling beyond hubs in Toronto, Ottawa, Montre´al and Halifax,” added Jackson.

Porter is also launching new service between Toronto Pearson – New York-LaGuardia and Montre´al – New York-Newark this spring. This is supported by expanding winter seasonal service through the summer to destinations such as Phoenix and San Diego, and increasing year-over-year capacity for Las Vegas and San Francisco.

“Porter has increased capacity in the U.S. by 25% year-over-year. Based on our current spring bookings, the number of passengers travelling on Porter across our transborder routes is up more than our capacity, demonstrating strong traveller demand for Porter’s elevated experience. As we shift some capacity to domestic routes in the near term to account for consumer travel interest, we are still seeing an overall increase in U.S. travel on Porter flights,” said Jackson.

On every flight, passengers enjoy Porter’s signature service, including no middle seats, complimentary wine and beer served in glassware and premium snacks. Routes operated with the new Embraer E195-E2 also have free, fast WiFi available for everyone.
