On or about February 16, 2025, WestJet committed 16 violations of subsection 14(1)(a) of the APPR by failing to provide passengers affected by the delay and subsequent cancellation of flight WS3103, food and drink in reasonable quantities, taking into account the length of the wait, the time of the day and the location of the passengers.
On or about that same date, WestJet also committed 19 violations of subsection 14(2) of the APPR by failing to offer passengers affected by the delay and cancellation of that same flight, hotel or other comparable accommodation that is reasonable in relation to the location of the passengers, as well as transportation to the hotel or other accommodation and back to the airport, free of charge, while passengers were required to wait overnight for their original flight or for a flight reserved as part of alternate travel arrangements.
WestJet has until April 7, 2026, to request reviews before the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
The National Airlines Council of Canada’s peer-reviewed study, which was published earlier today, found that by reducing the third-party taxes, fees, charges and regulations that are currently imposed upon Canadian air travellers today, Canada could increase its GDP by up to 15 billion dollars. The report also found that in doing this, up to 150,000 jobs would be created, sparking trade and tourism opportunities from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
“We are pleased to see that our valued partners at NACC are investing in the research WestJet has long believed and advocated for. Making air travel more affordable by lowering third-party taxes and fees is one of the most important levers in strengthening Canada’s economy,” said Jacqui McGillivary, WestJet Group EVP & Chief People and Public Affairs Officer.
“A Canada connected by affordable air travel is a better Canada for everyone. I urge all Canadian to review NACC’s report and educate themselves on the importance of making air travel more affordable,” continued McGillivary. “NACC’s recommendations mean more Canadians could gain stronger access to necessities such as medical care and trade, as well as connect with the people and places they love.”

“Strengthening ties with a world-class airline like Virgin Atlantic has long delivered stronger connectivity for our guests. WestJet is responding to the developing situation in Cuba and the latest travel advisory by Global Affairs Canada. At this time, the Government of Canada continues to advise travellers to exercise a high degree of caution when travelling to Cuba, related to fuel shortages and impacts to essential services that may disrupt travel on short notice.
Aligning with our focus to put guests and crew first and protect the integrity of our operation, WestJet Group has made the decision to begin an orderly wind down of our winter operations to Cuba, this is inclusive of WestJet, Sunwing Vacations, WestJet Vacations and Vacances WestJet Quebec.
To lessen the strain on local resources, beginning today, WestJet will depart Canada with empty aircraft to support the organized return of guests currently vacationing in Cuba. All aircraft dispatched to Cuba will carry sufficient fuel to safely depart without reliance on local fuel availability.

Airline will return to a prior seat pitch for economy cabins on recently reconfigured aircraft
CALGARY, AB, Jan. 16, 2026 /CNW/ – WestJet today announced it will change its cabin-configuration approach on the limited portion of its fleet where it densified seating. Following a review of operational data and feedback from guests and WestJetters, the airline will return to its prior standard seat pitch for economy cabins on these recently reconfigured aircraft by removing one row of seats.
WestJet pioneered affordable travel in Canada through a low-cost airline model that was able to offer significantly lower fares to Canadians. Over the past three decades, WestJet has evolved to keep pace with affordability for Canadians, while expanding the airline’s network and product offering.
“WestJet tried seat pitches that are popular with many airlines around the globe as they serve to provide affordable airfares,” said Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet Group Chief Executive Officer. “As an entrepreneurial airline founded on making air travel affordable to Canadians it’s in our DNA to try new products. At the same time, it is just as important to react quickly if they don’t meet the needs of our guests.”
WestJet had paused reconfiguration plans in December and planned to finalize its evaluation of the new interior layout mid-February; however, the airline has now accelerated the review to address feedback and provide clarity sooner.
The move reflects the airline’s commitment to align product decisions with the needs of the guest, while continuing to invest in reliability, affordability, and a modern onboard experience.
“WestJet was founded as an airline centred on guests,” added von Hoensbroech. “It is in this spirit that we will take what we’ve learned and continue to be cost-disciplined and innovative, while staying true to what our guests and our people expect from us.”
“It’s also important to recognize our WestJetters who showed up for guests with care and professionalism throughout,” said von Hoensbroech.
Aircraft interiors are managed to the highest safety and engineering rigor, with changes requiring multiple phases, starting with an engineering certificate. Once this certificate is received, WestJet can begin to convert all 180-seat aircraft to 174-seat layouts, with timelines for completion still being determined. WestJet is still evaluating other aspects of the new layout, while broader cabin reconfiguration investments, including refreshed interiors, enhanced amenities and modernized design, will continue as part of its commitment to improving the guest experience.
CALGARY, AB, Dec. 10, 2025 /CNW/ – WestJet today announced a reciprocal codeshare partnership with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), offering guests on both sides of the Atlantic enhanced access to a broader network of destinations all with the ease of a single booking. Available today, guests travelling from Calgary International Airport (YYC) on WestJet’s non-stop transatlantic flights to Paris and London Heathrow, can expand their horizons to some of SAS’ most popular destinations. This new codeshare agreement allows guests to book their entire journey on one ticket, while offering seamless single connection, baggage transfers and the ability to earn WestJet Rewards on any WestJet marketed itinerary with SAS.
“Deepening our commercial connection with SAS means more seamless connections for guests on both sides of the ocean. With more Canadians wanting to explore Northern Europe, we are proud to help them get there with ease, so they can focus on the destination,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “We are proud to partner with a world-class airline like SAS and look forward to introducing more connectivity between our two unique networks in 2026.”
“The expanded codeshare partnership with WestJet is an important step in connecting Scandinavia even more closely with Canada. It strengthens our main base in Copenhagen and gives travelers on both sides of the Atlantic more options and a smoother overall journey. This agreement broadens our joint offering and creates new opportunities for customers across our combined networks,” says Paul Verhagen, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer at SAS.
WestJet guests unlock single-stop access to three Nordic hubs
From storied capitals of the North to secluded coastal treasures, WestJet guests can now enjoy streamlined access to Copenhagen, Denmark, Oslo, Norway and Stockholm, Sweden on a year-round basis via WestJet’s non-stop Calgary-Paris and Calgary-Heathrow offerings. In 2026, WestJet guests will enjoy connectivity to these destinations from other transatlantic cities including Edinburgh, Dublin, Barcelona, Rome and Keflavik, allowing one-stop connectivity from WestJet’s other Canadian gateways to Europe. WestJet’s code will also be placed on SAS’ year-round direct service between Toronto and Copenhagen. Beginning today, new SAS codeshare bookings are available through travel agents or WestJet.com.
West-bound SAS guests unlock more than 10 seamless Canadian connections
The partnership expansion opens options for Europe-based guests looking to access the best of Canada via Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) as well as via SAS’ gateways in the United States including Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington-D.C., New York JFK and Boston. SAS code will be placed on WestJet operated flights beyond their Copenhagen-Toronto service and U.S. gateways to more than 10 Canadian destinations from coast-to-coast-to-coast including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Halifax and more.
Deeper connections on the horizon for Atlantic Canada
Last month, WestJet announced seasonal non-stop four-time weekly service between Halifax and Copenhagen, connecting the two cities for the first time beginning in May 2026. The airlines look forward to expanding their partnership early in the new year to include codesharing on the route, and providing more connections beyond Copenhagen while also welcoming guests from across Europe to enjoy the beauty of Nova Scotia.

As part of the airline’s beloved annual Christmas Miracle, WestJet is spreading holiday cheer to families with critically sick and injured children when they need it most
CALGARY, AB, Dec. 8, 2025 /CNW/ – This holiday season, WestJet is bringing hope, comfort, and a little magic to families facing some of life’s hardest challenges. Through its annual Christmas Miracle, WestJet is delivering joy to families with critically sick and injured children staying at Ronald McDonald House locations across Canada.
“We saw huge excitement, with more than 700 of our WestJetters from across the country stepping forward to volunteer,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer. “It’s a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together and open our hearts, especially during the holiday season.”
For families spending the holidays far from home while their child receives life-saving care, the season can be especially difficult. That’s why WestJetters from coast to coast have come together to make sure these families feel the warmth of the season. More than 400 WestJetters helped shop, wrap, and deliver gifts, creating extraordinary moments of connection and care.
“For families navigating difficult circumstances this holiday season, Ronald McDonald House plays an essential role in helping them stay together, an initiative WestJet is proud to support through this year’s Christmas Miracle,” added Taylor. “Christmas Miracle is about more than gifts; it’s about reminding these families that they are not alone, and that their courage inspires us all.”
Across 16 Ronald McDonald House locations, more than 600 families received gifts chosen with love, including toy cars, dolls, and stuffed animals for children and cozy blankets, thermoses, and noise-cancelling headphones for parents and caregivers. Families also received gift cards from WestJet’s partners, including TELUS, Canadian Tire and Skip as part of their family gift. WestJet also partnered with the Toronto Blue Jays to make this Christmas Miracle extra special, by gifting team merchandise to fans staying at Ronald McDonald House over the holidays. In order to ensure all of the gifts reach Ronald McDonald House locations in time for the holidays, WestJet is also leveraging its WestJet Cargo operation to assist with gift delivery.
To make each gift meaningful, WestJetters spoke with alumni families who shared what brought them comfort during their own journeys. Their insights guided WestJet’s “little elves” in choosing items that would truly make a difference.
“Every year, tens of thousands of families with critically sick and injured children stay at Ronald McDonald House, where they are surrounded by essential care during their child’s medical journey,” said Kate Horton, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House Canada. “The holidays can be especially difficult for families who are away from home seeking life-saving medical care, and we are profoundly grateful for WestJet’s generosity every day in bringing extra comfort and connection during an unimaginable time.”
This tradition reflects WestJet’s deep connection with Ronald McDonald House Canada, a partnership that began in 2007. For 13 years, WestJetters have embraced the spirit of giving, volunteering their time and hearts to spread holiday magic both on and off the aircraft.
