25 November 2023 – Message from F.K (Ted) Larkin
Arriving at the terminal building today, I saw a sign that read, “Sorry, we are closed permanently”.
Driving around the place, I noticed that all 20 hangars were empty, no windsocks were present, the runway and taxiway signs were blanks, there was no surface lightning and the centre of runway 15/33 had marks that may have been made by heavy equipment. The 70-year-old airport, once one of Canada’s busiest, looked like a ghost town.
A NOTAM was issued stating CYKZ was officially closed at 1100 (EST) on November 24
There was only one aircraft on the property. “C-GUQL” is a 1977 Beech B19 Sport 150 that is no longer posted on the Canadian Civil Aircraft Register. M
