TORONTO, Dec. 3, 2025 /CNW/ – To help make air travel more accessible and less daunting, a first-of-its-kind rehearsal tour gave individuals with spinal cord injuries the chance to practice the airport journey, build confidence, and experience the process before an actual flight. The initiative is hosted by Toronto Pearson, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario, and Air Canada.
The event, held at Toronto Pearson today, gave participants the chance to rehearse key parts of the airport journey, including check-in and security screening. Air Canada demonstrated accessibility supports such as aisle chair use and safe transfer techniques like the eagle lift, allowing participants and caregivers to learn directly from trained accessibility teams.
“At Toronto Pearson, we strive to ensure passengers feel prepared and confident throughout their travel experience,” said Christina Iacovino, Director, Customer Experience and Development, Toronto Pearson. “This rehearsal program gives participants the chance to practice real stages in the journey and understand the supports available to them. Our collaboration with Spinal Cord Injury Ontario and Air Canada is an important step in improving accessibility and strengthening the travel experience for passengers with disabilities.”
“Air Canada is committed to accessible travel, and an important step towards that goal is providing opportunities to get exposure and familiarity for customers who are new to travel with a disability,” said Kerianne Wilson, Director, Customer Accessibility at Air Canada. “A rehearsal tour like today’s is invaluable for building confidence by giving customers access to the airport and our specialized equipment and employees in a supportive setting so that when it comes time for their actual journey, participants will feel more prepared, comfortable, and assured. We are proud to support initiatives like this that remove barriers and help make the skies open to all.”
“Air travel is a vital part of independence, and too many people with spinal cord injuries face unnecessary barriers when they fly. This rehearsal tour gives our community the chance to practice the journey in a safe, supportive environment and to see firsthand what accessible travel can look like when partners get it right. We’re grateful to Toronto Pearson and Air Canada for taking meaningful, concrete steps to improve the travel experience, and we’re proud to work together toward a future where confidence and dignity are built into every trip.” Michael Richardson CEO, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario.
The travel rehearsal tour is part of Toronto Pearson’s ongoing effort to remove barriers and improve accessibility for passengers with disabilities through programs that allow travellers to practice their airport journey year-round on a more personalized scale.

MONTRÉAL, Nov. 26, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Dreams Take Flight, Air Canada and The Air Canada Foundation celebrated another successful year of magical journeys to theme parks in Florida and California. This year, more than a thousand children across Canada got to experience a day full of rides, magic and laughter.
Founded in 1989, Dreams Take Flight was created by a group of Air Canada employees in Toronto with a mission to offer children who experience mental, physical or social challenges a trip of a lifetime to a theme park in Florida. By 1997, Dreams Take Flight had expanded across Canada with eight chapters: Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Dreams Take Flight is 100 per cent volunteer driven. Air Canada and The Air Canada Foundation provide each chapter with an aircraft, along with additional support and services, to ensure every trip is a success.
The children chosen from different children’s organizations are accompanied by volunteers, current and retired Air Canada employees who provide a magical experience for those onboard. The volunteers, including flight attendants, maintenance engineers, and numerous other employees on the ground and behind the scenes, generously volunteer their time to offer these children the chance to take a break from their everyday lives and create lifelong memories.
“I am profoundly thankful for the Air Canada Foundation’s steadfast partnership. Their support enables our dedicated volunteers to deliver a day of magic for children who need it most – an experience that can open hearts, broaden horizons, and remind every child that they deserve to dream,” said Denise Egglestone, President, Dreams Take Flight Canada.
“Dreams Take Flight is more than a trip; it’s a moment that inspires hope and courage. Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our employees and retirees, children experience a day that lifts their spirits and reminds them that their dreams are worth believing in. It’s a day filled with laughter, wonder, and possibility, creating memories that stay with them long after the plane has landed. That is something we value deeply and are proud to support,” said Brigitte Saint-Pierre, Director, Official Languages and Community Engagement at Air Canada, on behalf of the Air Canada Foundation.
Since its first flight over 35 years ago, more than 35,000 children have experienced a Dreams Take Flight trip-of-a-lifetime to Florida or California.

Partnership, which has unlocked global connectivity to over 225 destinations worldwide, to be expanded and extended until 2032
New customer benefits, including enhanced premium travel experience at more airports
Strengthened cargo cooperation to boost two-way trade and better facilitate cargo shipments between the Americas and the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Southeast Asia
MONTRÉAL and DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Air Canada and Emirates today announced a commitment to expand and extend their strategic partnership, building on the success of a three-year-old agreement between two of the world’s leading airlines. Since launching their strategic partnership in 2022, the airlines have already served more than 550,000 customers, connecting travellers across 56 codeshare routes linking Canada, the U.S., Dubai and key destinations around the globe. The carriers have signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the reciprocal codeshare and loyalty partnership until December 31, 2032. The renewed agreement will deepen their cooperation, lead to enhanced services for customers and cargo shippers, and create the potential for new gateways within Canada in the codeshare network.
“Air Canada’s partnership with Emirates has been highly successful, and we are proud to renew it early, expanding its scope and extending its duration through 2032. This agreement strengthens our international strategy by supporting our daily, year-round service between Toronto and Dubai and providing customers and shippers seamless connections to destinations across the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Renewing this partnership is great news, not just for our customers – many of whom have family, cultural or business ties to these regions – but also for Canada, as it enhances our ability to connect the country to the world amid evolving trade and travel patterns,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer and President, Cargo at Air Canada.
“Our strategic partnership with Air Canada has delivered exceptional results, and we are pleased to extend this collaboration through 2032. This agreement strengthens our passenger and cargo capabilities, enabling us to enhance customer experiences on codeshare flights while expanding network connectivity for travellers across both markets,” said Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates.
“Beyond passenger services, we recognise the vital role air connectivity plays in fostering economic growth. Since establishing our codeshare partnership in 2022, we have witnessed consistent trade expansion between the UAE and Canada. Through enhanced cargo cooperation, we remain committed to facilitating commerce and contributing to the continued prosperity of both economies. We believe this partnership will serve as a catalyst for strengthening our footprint in Canada and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”
Air Canada-Emirates Strategic Partnership
The enhanced partnership between Emirates and Air Canada is poised to significantly strengthen tourism and trade between both countries. The collaboration will increase passenger choice and enable expanded cargo cooperation that will facilitate bi-directional cargo flow between the Americas, the Middle East, and Indian subcontinent. Both airlines are also exploring a potential joint venture focused on cargo operations to support the efficient movement of commodities globally.
The extended agreement will enhance the customer experience through improved priority benefits for eligible passengers and operational coordination between both airlines, including ensuring a seamless move of operations to Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) (expected after 2032). Since its inception, the partnership has grown consistently, with the codeshare network expanding to 56 routes that connect Emirates customers to 37 destinations throughout Canada and the U.S., including several new routes that were added this summer: Air Canada-operated services from Toronto to Minneapolis, Montréal to Calgary, and Vancouver to Los Angeles. Air Canada also places its code on 19 routes operated by Emirates to the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Southeast Asia. In addition to flights under the codeshare agreement, Emirates and Air Canada’s interline partnership also provides customers with access to over 225 destinations worldwide.
“Partnerships are one of the most powerful engines of growth in our business, and our collaboration with Emirates is a perfect example. Since launching in 2022, more than half-a-million customers, almost 500 every single day, have seamlessly connected across our combined networks. What makes this partnership so compelling is the ease and breadth of the experience: more routing choice, reciprocal loyalty benefits, lounge access for eligible customers, and smooth interline and codeshare journeys. With this renewed agreement, we’re taking it even further by enhancing the customer experience, expanding access to more airports, and unlocking loyalty redemptions across all cabins,” said Mary-Jane Lorette, Vice President International Affairs, Network & Partnerships at Air Canada.
Since the initial agreement in November 2022, Air Canada relocated its Dubai operation to Dubai International’s flagship Terminal 3. MONTRÉAL, Nov. 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Air Canada Foundation is excited to welcome applications to its annual grant program. Through this initiative, the Foundation remains deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of children and youth by funding programs that deliver meaningful, lasting impact on children and their families from coast to coast to coast.
Applicants must demonstrate how their proposed project or program will improve and increase access to care, services and eliminate barriers to foster the overall well-being for children and youth from underserved* populations. To be eligible for consideration, requests must be submitted by a Canadian registered charity whose mission aligns with the Air Canada Foundation’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of children and youth. The funding must support programs or services offered within Canada and must directly impact children from equity-deserving groups.
“We at the Air Canada Foundation believe all children deserve the chance to reach their full potential and we are proud to support organizations that help make this possible. In keeping with our 12-year mission, we’re inviting Canadian charities focused on children’s health and well-being to apply for funding through our grant program. We want to help these charities spread their wings and bring joy, care, and opportunity to more young lives across the country,” said Priscille Leblanc, Chair of the Air Canada Foundation.
In 2025, the Foundation disbursed $1.6 million as part of its annual grant program, in support of 38 distinct projects led by 38 Canadian registered charities, each aligned with one of the Foundation’s three pillars:
Health – through working with pediatric hospitals and community organizations to improve health outcomes for children and youth.
Protection- by addressing the effects of socioeconomic adversity such as food insecurity and poverty, as well as the impacts of trauma so children can live a healthy childhood.
Dreams – by fostering hope for seriously ill and impoverished children and those facing physical, mental and social adversity.
Financial grant applications are only accepted between November 1 and December 31 each year. All submissions are reviewed collectively after the deadline. Applicants selected for funding will receive their grants during the first half of the following calendar year.
