  • Going Global – New Destinations Take Flight as Air Canada Expands Network for Summer 2026

    • New Montréal – Catania, Italy
    • New Montréal – Palma de Mallorca, Spain
    • Return of TorontoShanghai; TorontoBudapest
    • Extension of Vancouver–Bangkok to year-round

MONTRÉAL, Sept. 10, 2025 /CNW/ – Air Canada today announced its international network for Summer 2026 with new destinations taking flight in Europe and Asia. Beginning next year, the airline will launch new routes from Montréal to Catania in Sicily, Italy and, as unveiled yesterday, to Palma de Mallorca, Spain. From Toronto, Air Canada re-establishes non-stop flights to Shanghai and Budapest, and increases flights to Prague. Air Canada’s popular seasonal Vancouver-Bangkok route will now become year-round, strengthening the airline’s position as the only North American carrier offering direct, non-stop service to the Thai capital.

“Air Canada’s continued international expansion reflects our bold ambitions, and leverages our network reach and scale to capitalize on global travel demand driven by leisure travel trends, growing demand for services to Asia, and cargo development opportunities. Next summer, we will be launching exciting, new services to Sicily and Mallorca from our Montréal trans-Atlantic hub. Air Canada is the first Canadian carrier to offer customers non-stop flights to these sought after Mediterranean destinations, and the only airline operating scheduled service from Canada to Sicily and Mallorca,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo at Air Canada.

“From Toronto, we are further cementing our global hub with the launch of two celebrated, international routes linking Canada’s largest metropolitan area directly to Shanghai and Budapest, and adding capacity to Prague. Our seasonal Bangkok services from our Vancouver trans-Pacific hub become year-round, solidifying our position as the only airline with non-stop, continual service to Thailand from the North American continent. In all, these strategic additions reinforce Air Canada’s global network as one of the most wide-reaching from North America, connecting our customers to all six inhabited continents,” concluded Mr. Galardo.

“Canadians will enjoy more travel options, greater convenience, and stronger connections to Europe and Asia with Air Canada’s new destinations in 2026. These expanded routes mean easier access to the places people want to go—whether for business, leisure, or to visit family. And as more passengers take flight, they promote trade and tourism, supporting jobs across the country, and helping us grow a stronger Canadian economy,” said the Honourable Chrystia Freeland , Minister of Transport and Internal Trade.

“Air Canada’s expanded network is more than new destinations—it’s a gateway to stronger trade, investment, and people-to-people ties. Most of Canada’s air cargo travels in the belly of passenger planes, so when we expand passenger routes, we’re also expanding trade routes—moving Canadian goods faster, farther, and more reliably. These new connections to Europe and Asia give Canadian businesses better access to key markets, strengthen our global competitiveness, and build on what was already a record year for Canadian air cargo. Stronger connectivity in the skies means stronger growth on the ground, and ensures Canada remains a leader in the global economy,” said the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, Government of Canada.

  • Getting Planes Back in the Skies, Getting Canadians Moving

Air Canada begins relaunching flights so customers can travel again

    • First departures are AC009 from Toronto to Tokyo-Narita, AC556 from Vancouver to Los Angeles and AC489 from Montreal to Toronto
    • 155 flights scheduled to depart today from Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver across North America and to Europe, Asia, South Pacific
    • Exceptional disruption policy to be implemented to cover transport expenses

MONTREAL, Aug. 19, 2025 /CNW/ – With the departures of AC009 from Toronto to Tokyo-Narita, AC556 from Vancouver to Los Angeles and AC489 from Montreal to Toronto, Air Canada resumed operations today to get Canadians moving again. The three flights were the first of 155 scheduled for the day as the airline gradually resumes service, beginning with a limited number of international flights this evening. This will gradually increase as the airline restores service in Canada, the U.S. and around the world over the coming days.

“We’re laser-focused on getting our customers moving again. Restoring global operations will take up to ten days, as aircraft and crew are out of position. Additionally, mandatory maintenance checks are required, as aircraft have been on the ground for more than three days. Regrettably, during this period some flights will be canceled until the schedule is stabilized, and we’ll notify customers well in advance and provide options,” said Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, at Air Canada.

“When customers buy a ticket on Air Canada, we are making a commitment to deliver them safely and on schedule. Following this disruption, we know confidence has been shaken. We’re working hard to fully restore their trust, starting by getting customers on their way again. To do that, we will be introducing an exceptional policy tomorrow, towards covering transportation expenses which customers may have incurred to get to their destination during this disruption. As well, we’ve created a dashboard on our website so anyone can transparently track our progress as our operations return to normal. We look forward to welcoming our customers and flight attendants back onboard,” concluded Mr. Nasr.

Air Canada’s recovery dashboard is available now at www.aircanada.com/action. The airline’s exceptional disruption policy will be available beginning August 20, 2025 at www.aircanada.com/action.

As Air Canada ramps up, customers should only go to the airport if they hold a confirmed booking, and their flights show as operating. Flight status can be checked on aircanada.com or on the Air Canada app. Those with cancelled flights can obtain a full refund, a travel credit, or, ask to be rebooked on our Star Alliance partners or other airlines, although capacity is limited due to peak summer travel. To assist in the rebooking process, Air Canada has designated 5,000 agents to assist customers in finding alternative travel. More information for customers about travel options including an FAQ is at:  www.aircanada.com/action

Air Canada Express flights operated by Jazz or PAL continue to operate as normal.

  • Our Montreal-Kuujjuaq route may be ending, but our commitment to Nunavik remains

On August 5, 2025, a long-standing chapter in Canadian North’s history came to a close as we operated the last flight on our Montreal-Kuujjuaq route. While will continue seamlessly for the community with Air Inuit becoming the route carrier, this transition marks a meaningful moment for Canadian North and for many others connected to this route.

This route transfer follows the sale of Canadian North by Makivvik Corporation and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation to Exchange Income Corporation earlier this year. Air Inuit, owned by Makivvik, will now carry the legacy forward.

To mark the occasion, we hosted intimate commemorative events in both Kuujjuaq and Montreal, celebrating the history and impact of the route and expressing our continued commitment to Kuujjuaq. While this route may be changing hands, our presence in Kuujjuaq remains strong, with ongoing weekly service through Ottawa and enduring partnerships within the community.

For Canadian North, the route represents decades of connection, service, and relationships — a legacy that holds deep meaning for our President and CEO, Shelly DeCaria.

Born and raised in Kuujjuaq, Shelly’s connection to the region has shaped her leadership and continues to guide Canadian North’s commitment to long-term investment in the communities we serve.

  • Aéroports de Montréal reports 2025 Second Quarter Financial Results

MONTREAL, Aug. 6, 2025 /CNW/ – ADM Aéroports de Montréal today reported its consolidated operating results for the second quarter and first half ended June 30, 2025. These results are accompanied by passenger traffic data for YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.

    Highlights

    • Passenger traffic at YUL totalled 5.7 million in the second quarter of 2025, up 0.9% compared with 2024. A total of 10.6 million passengers transited through YUL during the first half of 2025, down 0.4% compared with 2024. The domestic and international sectors grew by 3.2% and 0.6%, respectively, compared with the first half of 2024. The transborder sector was down by 6.8% compared with the corresponding six months of 2024.
    • EBITDA (earnings before net financial expenses, income taxes, depreciation and impairment, and share in the results of joint ventures, see the “Non-GAAP measures” section for more information) was $105.4 million for the second quarter of 2025, a decrease of $10.9 million compared with EBITDA of $116.3 million for the same period of 2024. For the six months ended June 30, 2025, EBITDA was $196.0 million, down $18.7 million from $214.7 million for the first six months of 2024.
    • Capital investments were $151.5 million in the second quarter of 2025 compared with $124.8 million for the corresponding period of 2024, an increase of $26.7 million, or 21.4%. Capital investments for the six months ended June 30, 2025 totalled $290.2 million ($171.1 million in 2024), an increase of $119.1 million, or 69.6%. In the first half of 2025, investments in the Airport Program totalled $224.4 million ($141.4 million in 2024), and those for the airport’s REM Station totalled $65.8 million ($29.7 million in 2024).

    Quote

“With the summer season in full swing and still bringing significant traffic to YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, ADM’s teams are doing their utmost to provide a warm welcome and quality service to visitors,” said Yves Beauchamp, ADM’s President and CEO. “Despite challenging weather conditions, flight operations have been running smoothly this summer, while major work has already begun. This includes reconfiguring the road network leading to the terminal. With the increasing number of projects over the next few years, our objective remains clear: to improve the way we guide and serve our passengers amid growth and major construction, while providing effective mitigation measures to minimize inconveniences. In this regard, I would also like to highlight the excellent work of the airport community’s employees who are helping us build the airport of tomorrow.”

    Financial results

Consolidated revenues amounted to $232.4 million for the second quarter of 2025, an increase of $3.2 million, or 1.4%, over the corresponding quarter in 2024. Revenues for the six-month period ended June 30, 2025 increased by 2.2%, from $442.0 million to $451.7 million in 2025. These results are attributable to the AIF rate increase on March 1, 2024, and the annual increase in aeronautical fees, partly offset by lower passenger traffic.

Operating expenses totalled $89.8 million for the second quarter of 2025, an increase of $12.4 million, or 16.0%, over the corresponding period of 2024. For the six months ended June 30, 2025, operating expenses increased by $26.9 million, or 17.2%, to $182.8 million, compared with $155.9 million for the same period in 2024. This increase is namely attributable to the costs associated with the preparation of preliminary studies that will make it possible to implement the airport facilities development plan. The variance is also due to higher information technology expenses as the corporation continues its transition to cloud-based solutions, and to the increase in headcount compared with the same period in 2024.

Transfers to governments (payments in lieu of taxes to municipalities [PILT] and rent paid to Transport Canada) totalled $37.2 million for the quarter under review, up $1.7 million over the previous year and represented 16.0% of ADM revenues (15.5% in 2024). For the first six months of 2025, transfers amounted to $72.9 million, an increase of $1.5 million over the same six months of 2024, and represented 16.1% of ADM’s total revenues (16.2% in 2024).

Depreciation and impairment of property and equipment and right-of-use assets was $41.8 million for the second quarter of 2025, up $0.8 million, or 2.1%, over the corresponding period of 2024. As at June 30, 2025, these expenses increased by $3.4 million, or 4.2%, to $85.1 million. This increase is mainly due to the revaluation of the remaining useful life of the pick-up and drop-off areas and the multi-level parking facility in front of the airport.

Net financial expenses totalled $25.6 million for the quarter under review, up $3.3 million, or 14.9%, from the corresponding period in 2024. Cumulative net financial expenses at June 30, 2025 totalled $50.1 million, compared with $43.6 million for 2024, an increase of $6.5 million, or 14.8%, over the previous year. This variance is primarily due to a decrease in interest income generated on surplus cash stemming from lower investment rates.

Net income was $38.0 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025, compared with $53.0 million for the same period in 2024, a decrease of $15.0 million, or 28.5%. Net income was $61.0 million at June 30, 2025, a decrease of $28.7 million, or 32.0%, compared with the same period in 2024.

    Financial situation

ADM’s net debt at June 30, 2025 was $2.37 billion, compared with $2.21 billion at December 31, 2024; see the “Non-GAAP measures” section for more information. The variance is mainly attributable to the use of cash for capital investments.

    Passenger traffic

For the second quarter of 2025, traffic at YUL totalled 5.7 million passengers, up 0.9% compared with the same period in 2024. International and domestic traffic rose by 2.9% and 4.7%, respectively, while transborder traffic (U.S.) was down 7.6% compared with the second quarter of 2024.

For the first six months under review, passenger traffic totalled 10.6 million, down 0.4% compared with the same period in 2024. Transborder traffic (U.S.) was down 6.8%, while international and domestic traffic were up 0.6% and 3.2%, respectively, compared with the corresponding six months of 2024. During the period, YUL also added new destinations, including Cincinnati, Edinburgh, Bermuda, Naples and Valencia.

    Sustainability at ADM

During this quarter, ADM implemented the following initiatives to pursue its commitment to sustainability:

    • Renewed its BOMA BEST Gold-level Sustainable Building certification, which attests to the terminal’s good energy and environmental performance at YUL. The airport was recognized for its efforts in several areas, including decarbonization, improved air quality, occupant health, accessibility, equity, and resilience.
    • Participated in a clean-up operation on the banks of Bouchard Creek for the third consecutive year. As part of the Allô Ruisseaux project, ADM collected 194.8 kilograms of waste. This project, carried out in collaboration with the GRAME organization, aims to improve the health of waterways on the West Island of Montreal through clean-up operations, planting vegetation, and raising awareness among citizens and businesses.
    • Was awarded the Platinum prize in the Overall Public Relations Program category by the Société québécoise des professionnels en relations publiques (SQPRP) for its communications campaign for the launch of the YMX Express shuttle pilot project. Launched last summer in collaboration with the City of Mirabel and several partners, this was the first public transit project on the YMX site, set up to meet the needs of Aerocity employees, visitors, and part-time workers.
    • Ranked 36th in the first edition of TIME and Statista’s prestigious list of the 125 best companies in Canada for 2025. ADM has distinguished itself in three areas over the past three years to achieve this ranking: employee satisfaction, organizational growth and environmental, social and governance (ESG) management.

    About ADM Aéroports de Montréal

ADM Aéroports de Montréal is the airport authority for the Greater Montréal area responsible for the management, operation and development of YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, certified 4 stars under the Skytrax World Airport Star Rating program, and YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel.

  • CIB supports transformation of Montréal-Trudeau International Airport

$1 billion CIB loan to advance critical airport infrastructure development for passengers

    • Largest infrastructure transformation in the airport’s history
    • Enhanced airport facilities to increase operational capacity – a GDP impact of $3.7 billion
    • New airside infrastructure to promote connectivity and Canadian trade
    • Improved airport access will reduce congestion and allow for a more efficient user experience

MONTREAL, July 16, 2025 /CNW/ – The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and ADM Aéroports de Montréal have achieved financial close on a $1 billion loan to support large-scale infrastructure improvements at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.

With YUL’s travel volumes having surpassed pre-pandemic levels and recorded the highest growth amongst large Canadian airports, ADM Flight Plan 2028 – 2035, a $10 billion, 10-year capital improvement plan to keep pace with demand.

Montréal-Trudeau International Airport offers a vital connection to global markets a key gateway and trade corridor into Canada. By 2028, YUL’s planned infrastructure investments will contribute nearly $3.7 billion in GDP. Additionally, the anticipated growth in passenger traffic supported by these facilities will create up to 9,000 additional jobs, adding to the 59,388 jobs in Québec already supported by YUL.

The CIB’s investment will help advance projects under YUL’s Flight Plan. Improved access to the airport and new airside infrastructure will enhance domestic and international travel and trade.

Cityside enhancements include the reconfiguration of airport access roads, construction of new parking areas and pick-up and drop-off points, and a new building to connect the future YUL-Montreal-Trudeau Airport REM station to the terminal.

Terminal and airside upgrades include systems allowing for an increase in baggage handling capacity, construction of a new satellite jetty with additional gates and passenger processing areas. Further improvements include new infrastructure to optimize aircraft operations including new taxiways and tarmacs to ensure sufficient capacity and operational flexibility.

With passenger volumes expected to reach 25 million by 2028 and between 30 to 35 million by 2035, continued investment in this critical infrastructure is essential. These upgrades will ensure YUL can support future growth, maintain operational efficiency and deliver higher-quality service to airport users. ADM’s projects at YUL will help advance Canada’s objectives of building a stronger, more competitive and resilient economy.

The loan from the CIB provides ADM with the flexible capital needed to advance multiple phases of Flight Plan simultaneously and without delays.

This project is being financed through the CIB’s trade and transportation sector, which supports developing stronger, more efficient trade and transportation corridors to domestic and international markets.

    Endorsements

We are proud to invest alongside Aéroports de Montréal as they make the largest infrastructure investment in the airport’s history and the CIB’s largest airport investment to date. Our $1 billion loan towards this important project will result in key outcomes; improved functionality at one of Montreal’s vital economic hubs. Improvements will support an added $3.7 billion in GDP, economic opportunities with more jobs and strengthen Canada’s global connectivity.
Ehren Cory, CEO, Canada Infrastructure Bank

The expansion of the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport will create jobs, improve service, and support long-term economic growth. Through this investment, we’re helping one of Canada’s busiest airports grow to meet future demand while building stronger, more connected communities.
The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada

As ADM works hard to build the airport of tomorrow, support from partners such as the Canada Infrastructure Bank enables us to secure the necessary resources to achieve our objectives. YUL’s development plan is extensive, but essential to ensure that our international airport can continue to accommodate growing passenger numbers and meet the expectations and needs of its users. As a not-for-profit organization, it was crucial for ADM to diversify the financing of this large-scale project in order to accelerate investment in the airport for the benefit of the community. YUL will now be able to fulfil its role as a driver of socio-economic development for the city, province, and country even more effectively.
